We played well today BUT...
at 18:15 17 Apr 2021

Our goalkeeper kicks the ball up to Beesley who does well and heads the ball forwards....it goes to no one!!!!! Our players are not getting to his knock downs and that is a wasted opportunity. This has happened in quite a number of games. Why hasn't BBM put this right?

Virtual new kit launch next weekend
at 12:35 28 Mar 2021

As reminded to us in the open letter to fans, 2021/2022 season marks our 100th anniversary in the League. Will this be a good omen? I am hoping so...

I am reading a book about the English Civil Wars and the people living in 1665 dreaded the upcoming year 1666 because of the sign of the devil.

In 1666, which in terms of roman numerals contains all letters but only once MDCLXVI , a fire swept through London demolishing five sixths of all buildings and killing countless people.

But, ever the optimist, I always think we will have a good 100th year and if the kit is buzzing then I will buy one and support the club.

Royal Mail scam
at 18:27 27 Mar 2021

Heard about the scam on the radio yesterday and lo and behold I received a text message from Royal Mail today which I deleted. They are asking for a payment for delivery charges but really it is an attempt to get your bank details. Apparently these scams are getting more sophisticated and believable, they mimic the bank doing security checks etc, etc.

Beware.

Take a bow Stuart Ashworth
at 12:41 27 Jan 2021

After 5 years away (time flies) from commentating on the Dale games Stuart graced us with his presence last night. I really enjoyed his humour, talking about how he hoped that we could score..."by rattling the Sandy net" and so on. I loved his bias and his co-commentator complimented him well. Very much hope to hear more of Stuart and Co.

Unmarked and unchallenged in the box AGAIN
at 10:37 16 Sep 2020

The first goal of the season against us was scored by Tyler Smith , who we know well as a striker, being left alone in the the box to choose his spot. It was galling to see. Roll forward to the next match and we witness Kachunga unchallenged just in front of goal again for him to head into our net.

All that effort that goes into training etc, etc and the basic marking is yet AGAIN absent from our game.

What on earth are Rochdale being taught in training?

We see this season after season but surely we can begin to put it right.

Frustrated.

New player: Jimmy Ryan
at 10:07 12 Jan 2020

We are now seeing the real Jimmy Ryan, and what a player !!! He stepped up to the mark against Accy, Newcastle and Bolton yesterday. Before he scored I commented how well he was playing. He is showing commitment, tenacity and that coupled with skill on the ball, he’s like a new signing. Before these games he was anonymous, constantly passing back and not showing much talent. Now, he wants the ball, he holds onto it and makes a useful pass. But I love it when he surges forword with the ball. He had a touch of luck with the deflection off the Bolton player for the goal, but he earned his luck.

Yes, Bolton...a touch of class.

Wilbraham our key to League 1 survival
at 11:42 28 Dec 2019

Wilbraham reminded us against Fleetwood how effective he can be in the opposition's box. He needs to be firmly planted in that position for the rest of the season and it will pay dividends. We are often looking for an outlet to start our attack and we generally pick out Wilbraham. But he needs a partner in crime to work with. When he heads the ball forward someone needs to be on the end of it. Done, I know he's injured, usually arrives late. We need someone arriving on time all the time. A good candidate is Baah. With his close ball control and powerful shot ,as witnessed against Fleetwood ,could prove a real handful for the opposition. Substitute Camps for Baah if needed. I would be telling both players to conserve energy not running for lost causes like Done, recognising that one is old and the other is young.
If you contrast Rochdale with Accrington ,for example, we are on the back foot, they play on an attacking front foot. We should get more players in the box and with this front pairing put ourselves on the front foot too.
We need a strong central defender in our box, stopping the close range goals against us as witnessed in our last two games, and to mix up our style of play or we will be down to League 2 next season. Tranmere, Wimbledon and even MK Dons are upping their games. And if, God forbid, Bolton overtake us, then in the words of Fraser from Dad's Army....we are doomed !!!!!!!!

Missed Hendo today
at 17:21 21 Dec 2019

Pyke had a great heading chance to nod over the line but embarrassingly headed it wide. A chance that Hendo probably would have taken. Just at the end of the first half the ball was flashed in front of their goal but Done was too slow to get on the end of it to tap home, another that Hendo could have scored. Done did have a shot which glanced off the x-bar and a shot just wide of the post. Keohane was unlucky hitting the post.

Great second half performance from Dale and I thought we were going to get something out of the game.

Done too late to join the party
at 17:44 10 Aug 2019

Overall, very pleased with the way we are playing with confidence, keeping the ball well. If we have the ball they can’t score. But there will always be ways to improve.

In the second half our goalie kicks the ball up to Calvin. He needs support but twice Done comes running in to support him far too late, the chance has gone.

Similarly, last week at Tranmere, our goalie kicks the ball out wide to Pyke or Hendo and there was little support for them. What is the point of kicking it out wide if we cannot carry the move out properly?

Marland Golf Course to close on 1st April
at 14:36 22 Feb 2019

Rochdale Council have decided to close the course as they are unwilling to support it further financially. There have been several groups come forward with full business plans which demonstrated the course could be run without council subsidy. Why can’t the council take up one of these options?

Childhood and adult obesity are issues facing the public of Rochdale and having such a facility helps in this regard. I believe having a game of golf is also good for the mind and therefore mental health. It brings people together, especially older males who tend to suffer from lack of social interaction. But the council is still pushing ahead with the closure.

Madness.

If you would like to complain to the council you can email:

We were at it today
at 20:24 27 Oct 2018

Listened to the game today in a cafe in Porto, Portugal, a great city. Sounded like an exciting game with plenty of passion from our players. Well done.

I was supposed to be back to watch the game but wifey got the time wrong for the return flight to Liverpool, we were supposed to set off at 7.00 am yesterday from Porto but she said it was 7.00pm, and missed the flight.I know, it was my fault as well for not checking. I am sat at the moment at Porto airport waiting for a flight south to Lisbon. We then get a plane to Manchester which lands at 10am tomorrow. But our car is in Liverpool!

Thanks to the Dale players for those 3 points helping our journey.

Just an excuse to play...

The penny is beginning to drop with Keith
at 22:51 19 Oct 2018

In his pre-match Bradford interview Keith said that his job was in the balance. And this time I think he really meant it. He said it was up to the supporters and up to the Board but he was sure Dunphy wants continuity. Perhaps he is finally valuing the opinions of the supporters and showing humility and a bit of respect for the supporters. He is up against the ropes a little but at the same time he can sense that the team is about to turn a corner and produce something special and suddenly put a good few points on the board. He is adamant that the penny will drop with the players and they will show responsibility. Hopefully that means marking players in our box in particular.

I sense that Keith is really taking stock and I hope the players are too.

It is clear to me that Keith reads this Forum, otherwise, where does he get feedback so quickly from supporters to make the comments in his interviews?

The upshot of all this, hopefully, will be a really good performance tomorrow especially in terms of our defensive play.
