Southampton At Leicester The Debacle
at 22:57:12

Negative thoughts over the past weeks from me and others which I regret but that frustration is aimed solely at Russell Martin. We have a strong squad but this manager has totally blown it. You don’t need 60/70% of the ball to be successful in games the lack of creativity is there for all to see.He has been found out and unless the players can lift matters in the playoffs another season in the 2nd tier beckons.

Southampton V Watford The Verdict
at 19:18:42

Excellent write up. The lack of variation playing out from the back is driving everyone mad! All this dribble of a warm day, tired legs what a load of crap. The manager does not manage during the game and this creates the problems for the players.
Winning 23 games to date should have us feeling we have cracked it but it just does not feel like it I cannot remember any successful season being so underwhelming.
A good squad playing to orders without giving them guidance on a variation to their pattern of play is extremely frustrating.

Southampton V Coventry City The Verdict

Thought performance was better and a good number of players played well for 60 minutes until the tinkering started. We will need robust, brave players in the playoffs and to be brutally honest neither Brooks or Mara fit the bill. Lightweights spring to mind although creative at times they do not seem to want to roll their sleeves up when it matters.
Hard working players will be the order of the day.

Southampton At Ipswich The Verdict
at 16:22:39

I fully agree with the negative comments. Russell Martin had the squad and has blown it shame on him. Any reasonable manager with this group of players would have been nailed on to be in the automatic promotion shakeup.
The complete failure in a number of matches to kill the game off added to the dreadful defending has cost us due to his failure to adapt to situations.
He had a wonderful opportunity to win the fans over and has succeeded in alienating a high percentage of us.
Finishing 4th in most seasons would have been considered pretty good coupled with a play off slot but I feel Martin has cheated us. Not a sacking fan but his inability to change makes him untenable if we fail in the playoffs

Southampton V Sunderland The Verdict
at 21:19:31

Like most fans i have come to expect this type of display on offer. I walked home thinking did we win? It didn’t really feel like a win. The tactics we witness week in week out lends its self to mistakes hence most fan’s frustration at the performance. Both Millwall and Sunderland were poor and as we have a strong squad on paper we can only assume the method employed by Russell Martin is working only some of the time. I know he is not going to change and my overall dissatisfaction will continue. I really would like to be more positive but I hope come the end of the season we don’t feel cheated as to what might have been. I sincerely hope I am totally wrong.

Southampton V Millwall The Verdict
at 13:39:40

I like all fans love to see our team do well, regardless of how they play and from time to time playing ugly to get the right result. I am really please with the great run we had been on and give the players credit for this.
As you may suspect there is a but coming. Why do I find I am totally bored in the style of play Russell Martin insists on playing. There is no real creative play and apart from Walker-Peters there is no excitement generated. I can look away from the game and find the predictable play insisted by the Manager takes us no further forward. Sideways, backwards, forward, backwards it goes on.
Millwall were a poor side and our lack of creative play is finding us out. Team selection is an issue but we should(on paper) have enough to beat teams like this.

On This Day 1960 Saints Cause FA Cup Shock At Manchester City
at 14:30:18

Remember it well. Great day with my Dad, shame we lost to Watford in the next round. Paine will always be the greatest player the Saints had in my 75 years. He made the most average striker look like a world beater. So many happy memories.

Just goes to show Ings has no loyalty and is clearly in the GIG (greed is good) camp. Trust that being a so called Saints fan means so much to him if the media report is correct Shameful

Southampton Midfielder Shocked By Fans Booing At St Mary's
at 09:21:55

So just like the Leeds game we started well but a less than an inspired second half performance. Martin’s subs did not work and we lacked a cutting edge. I mentioned to my fellow season ticket I think Rotherham will score and sure enough they did.
Fans frustration is understandable a group of players highly paid therefore expectation are very high. I love to know what the total cost of the Rotherham team and their respective wages compared to our team. Seeing Leicester doing so well adds to our continued frustration remember Russell Martin we are not MK Dons and Swansea.

Southampton V Ipswich Town The Verdict
at 13:13:42

I have seen good and bad teams in my 70 years of support in that long period of time (until the last 3 seasons) I have felt entertained during the peaks and troughs. However I feel utterly bored currently in the style this new manager wants to play.
Is it me? Slow build up, time wasted in playing tippy tippy crap around our own penalty area, no creative play apart from KWP.
The players are not good enough to play this type of football so RM be brave as you wrongly suggest your players need to be. This situation is firmly on you. For those who seek patience do you want to wait until January 2024 for our highly paid squad to click??

Southampton V Leicester City The Verdict

Like Nick I have taken time to reflect on the utter shambles of Friday night.
Tactics were childish and have no place in the cutthroat championship.
We are not MK Dons or Swansea this is a club with supporters who demand respect and will not accept waiting 3 months before this manager gets it right.
If the next 3 fixtures show no signs of rapid improvement sack him.

Southampton V Fulham The Verdict
at 10:24:59

I now think all of us have exhausted our thoughts on the dire situation at our beloved club. Comparing our personnel I reflected on this scenario a class act in 34 year old William who showed what he can bring to the party as opposed to Walcott who is well passed his sale by date and would not get a game in any other Premier League side.
Biggest problem now who would we want to stay? We will all have opinions but I find my list is shrinking on a daily basis. Depression for the next 4 months is now upon as all!! So very sad.

Southampton V Crystal Palace The Preview
at 17:30:54

I will always be a Saints supporter for the rest of my days but I have lost the passion this season and I’m sure many of you feel the same. The influx of new players has not worked and we are now saddled with a manager that wants to shut up shop and pray to God we sneak a goal. Is this the Southampton way I think not.
I have missed 3 out of the last 4 games thinking that I am a bad omen which I now know is not correct. Team selection is very worrying and cannot feel confident that we can match a rejuvenated Palace under their new 75 year old manager. Perhaps we could ask Laurie Mac to do a stint as I cannot think of anything else this disappointing club has shown me in recent times

Southampton V Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict
at 14:24:31

Sometime since I enjoyed a game at St Mary’s but even at 3-1 down we were far better than the recent dross. I am a great admirer of Ward Prowse and cannot praise him enough. However, we have made him the centre of our universe but should he be played as one of two in midfield? My view is no I would prefer him wide on the right in midfield in front of KWP and use him considerable ability to create crosses that we currently seem incapable of doing. Brentford was a great example of our inability to do this. Could our result against Spurs be a turning point? I really hope so

Southampton V Grimsby Town The Verdict
at 12:41:06

What a shambles, I really don’t enjoy going to St Mary’s anymore. Like everyone I want them to turn things around but cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel.
I am like many a season ticket holder but after nearly 70 years of watching I am unable to generate any enthusiasm for going the football is so poor. See it before but not at such a constant level of dross. As for ME stating that we will be OK what has he contributed to the party?? Absolutely nothing!! The Grimsby result well we can’t expect anything from this extremely poor bunch of overpaid clowns

Udinese Striker On Southampton Radar
at 19:03:16

Love to see Jones succeed but the signs are not good. The decision making process by the club are worrying and signing so many young players was a massive gamble. Laurie Mac pushed many young players but he always balanced this with older experienced players even some that were considered past their sale by date. We all like to see young players come through but the current makeup of the playing staff gives supporters no confidence. I sincerely hope the January window works for us but like many I am not holding by breath.
Again like many why bring in someone who ticks all the speadsheet boxes but lacks any experience in the top tier? Totally baffling. Cannot image the reaction if we lose to Forest

Lyanco what a performance. Ale House football once attributed to us by Bill Shankland about McGrath,Walker, Gabriel etc for those that can remember. All Saints fans are always stirred by 110% commitment and that was especially true in the second half. Regardless of the RH situation some good performances on Sunday.

New Era Begins At Southampton Football Club

BryanK
In March 1959 my Dad took me to watch Saints at the Dell only to see them lose 6-0 to Brentford,
My Dad decided enough was enough and stopped going to support his team. I cracked on and Ted Bates had a real clear out and with the introduction of new signings and we were promoted to the second division in 1959/60.
The message to Ralph is get it right in the summer or you are history.
Looking back we are generally a loyal bounce but the crap are team is turning out is not acceptable. Nick this moderate position you adopt reminds of a liberal with a long beard and opened toe sandles Please grow a pair and get off the very high fence you sit on.
