Northam Wall - Stoke game

True.

The Dormund spotters will be the ones in the yellow shirts; not the fat people in the pink ones.

Obviously it's a bit later than when you did it, but there are 3,821 tickets left now. It's a fairly quick and easy process if you place an online calculator over the seating plan and just type in the numbers and plus signs. The Kingsland has about 10,000 seats so the 3 stands available would need to be sold out to get a crowd over 20,000. So you and Nick are right with your estimates. It's going to be somewhere between 15,000 and 18,000.

I still think the Club made a mistake closing the Kingsland. If they hadn't, there would have been a bigger crowd - probably over 20,000. I also find that when you are in a packed stand staring at an empty one on the other side of the pitch, it spoils the atmosphere, and makes it seem like a pre-season friendly, and that in itself has probably put some people off going.

The Club certainly doesn't make much of an effort to sell tickets. I guess they feel they don't need to as the league games sell out anyway.

Way more?

Yes, it looks like it's between 3,000 and 4,000. There's one block which is mostly empty: the one in the Chapel that's next to the away fans. Not many fans want to be in that on, so why put it on sale, when they could have opened a block in the centre of the Kingsland instead?

Less than 3,000 tickets left. If they offered a last minute deal for a fiver, they could sell out. Of course, they won't. They can't be bothered. Similarly, if they'd opened the Kingsland instead of the Chapel, they'd have sold more tickets, When it's one price, the seats at the side always sell out first, which is why the Itchen has been sold out for days.

Like many things the Club does, not opening the Kingsland is a false economy. The extra tickets they'd have sold to people who don't want to be behind the goal - and that's a lot of fans - would have more than covered the cost of the stewards. Once the Itchen was sold out, that's what they should have done.

Ten Haag sacked at Man U. Who's next for them.
at 06:22 29 Oct 2024

Yes, I remember that game well. He played all alone up front, kept 4 defenders busy and still scored against us, playing a neat 1-2 through the centre of our defence and slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

As for the quality of our scouts, most scouts are in their jobs more because of who they know rather than what they know. Ross Wilson, our former head of scouting, became a scout because his best friend's dad, who worked in the media department at Falkirk FC , knew he was a studious lad and asked him to write reports on U18 games. You probably could have done a better job than he did here. Just because someone is in a job, doesn't necessarily mean he is any better suited to it than the next man.

How many points will we get this season?
at 06:13 29 Oct 2024

Premier League Lowest Points Totals of All-Time:

Derby County 2007-08: 11 points.

Sunderland 2005-06: 15 points.

For comparison, after their first 9 games, Derby in 2007/08 and Sunderland in 2005/06 both had 5 points. We've got 1.

I guess he'll be taking Gyökeres to Old Trafford with him in January. He was his record signing at Sporting and he's been scoring a goal per game. If only we'd bought him from Coventry when we had the chance...

Anything above 30 would be miraculous, especially as newly promoted teams usually get more points in their opening 10 games than they do in the later ones. We've got 1 point from our opening 9 games; we'd need to get at least a point per game from the remaining 29 to achieve that. Can Russell, Captain Jack & co pull off a miracle? What do you think?

The Itchen is sold out. If they'd wanted a bigger crowd, they'd have opened the Kingsland instead of the Chapel. When tickets are one price all around the stadium, people are always attracted to what are usually the more expensive areas. For many of those undecided as to whether to go or not, that would have been a clincher.

I don't think half-term makes any real difference. There are never many children at night games.

Considering the results, our support has been good this season, with league games selling out home and away. With so many negatives this season, the one thing we can be positive about is our support.

U18s next? We should bring back the A team so our new signings can play other players their level. I wonder if the FA would let them play for Sholing and Totton. Cornet could sell ice creams at half-time.

Yann Valery with the assist for the winning goal.

It must be a huge disadvantage having to play home games at Fratton Park. No Pompey team (men or women) has won there for more than half a year.

Manning voted 3rd best looking player in Premier lge
at 15:48 25 Oct 2024

If Jamie Vardy finished 2nd, it has to be a joke. Vardy has one of those ugly faces you see in gurning competitions.

It would be quite funny if Manning played with a sticker on his back, saying "3rd best looking player"

Leeds Striker Could Make January Loan Switch To Southampton
at 15:36 25 Oct 2024

At least we dodged this useless former Leeds lump:

"Ipswich are considering sending Kalvin Phillips back to his parent club Manchester City, as he is nowhere near the level expected."

I was speaking to a Leeds fan the other day who told me that Bielsa got some very ordinary players to perform well above their level and nobody else has been able to do it since.

The trouble is Leeds fans have seen the games he played and they really hate him. About the kindest thing they have to say about him is that he's a useless lump. They will be so happy to see the back of him.

Personally, I think they are being a bit ungrateful as up until all of his injuries caught up with him a few years ago he didn't seem that bad and scored quite a few goals. But, it's obvious his best days are behind him now.

In January, I really wish we'd sign a prolific goalscorer like Ayoub El-Kaabi instead. He's the best striker out there in our price range.

Yes, and I've even seen him score against us at St Mary's. He always looked impressive. There was one poster on here who was always saying we should sign him. But, unfortunately, our recruitment team have their own ideas. I expect his injury record wasn't bad enough for them.

He was discussed on here but I don't think the Club was ever interested in him. Ross Stewart was the striker they wanted.

Astonishing
at 12:45 24 Oct 2024

He must be disappointed he's still here because getting fired now would be quite a good career move for him. His CV wouldn't be tarnished by our relegation and he'd probably still be able to attract job offers from Championship clubs.

He'd also get paid a lot of money without having to worry about our results any more. He knows now is the best time for him to get fired. The last thing he wants is to be sacked at the end of the worst Premier League season in history. That would leave him as permanently damaged goods and I should imagine he'd find the huge dent in his personal pride very hard to take.

Why they haven't sacked him yet:

Why? Why can't people see it's the owners who need removing?
at 10:40 24 Oct 2024

It was in the early days before they'd had a chance to influence anything. We were a mid-table Premier League team back then. Of course, once they got to work, things deteriorated badly.

They took over an established top flight team on a good run in January, 2022. It's hard to believe now that we were getting results like this:

26 December 2021 West Ham United 2–3 Southampton
28 December 2021 Southampton 1–1 Tottenham Hotspur
11 January 2022 Southampton 4–1 Brentford
15 January 2022 Wolverhampton Wanderers 3–1 Southampton
22 January 2022 Southampton 1–1 Manchester City
9 February 2022 Tottenham Hotspur 2–3 Southampton
12 February 2022 Manchester United 1–1 Southampton
19 February 2022 Southampton 2–0 Everton
25 February 2022 Southampton 2–0 Norwich City

Saints only have 2 Premier League quality players
at 09:55 24 Oct 2024

And so is KWP. Even though, by our standards, he has looked like a very skilful player, no Premier League side wanted him when he was available last year, and teams often target him as a defensive weak link when they play us.
