Telfer did a job, never let us down. Tended to play wide right I think. His signing along with Paul Williams was not well received due to the perception that they were Strachan’s golfing mates. |

Maddison steady, a bit lightweight but he was better than Widdrington. If we are talking about their time at Saints, Idiakez was a huge let down. |

Not a fan of ultras but if nothing else they don’t stop and you could hear them loud and clear on tv. Did they seem loud in the ground? Barely heard our fans but that’s the way we are: loud when the team are on top but no songs or chants when the team needs it, plus no chants that go beyond 30 seconds, even OWTS fades by the end before it speeds up. I often think it feels as if our fans are bored of the same old songs yet no one joins it with any efforts to do anything different. |

Baffling isn’t it, Mubama was the useless, did nothing to get hold of the ball for us when we were under the cosh. Agree the squad does not have the same depth but we had more than enough quality to win that game against what is a bang average team with only one way of playing that we allowed. Jander is needed back badly. |

What are we doing going 5 at the back with 10 minutes to go and basically saying we’re going to let them pump ball after ball into the box. I’m fuming. Tonda got that wrong. We are more than good enough to retain the ball and manage the game, when we did that they had no momentum and ran out of ideas. |

Dreadful last 30 minutes. In control without creating much and then sit back and invite them to play the direct percentages game they wanted. Bringing Wood on was like England bringing on Burn- except we were playing Lincoln. Poor subs too, did any of them make a notable contributing? Really, really poor and if either team deserved to win it wasn’t us |

Absolutely, whilst I like Perez a lot, he has had an average start this season and as things stand he is (too?) safe in the knowledge that he is first choice. Unless we are committed to appearance payments for Ramsdale, it would seem daft not to promote him to first choice should Peretz’s form not improved. That said, in terms of the shaky start, his kicking and distribution has never been the best, he’s flapped with a couple of crosses and possibly let a goal in at Watford that he could’ve done better with. Not sure if this constitutes a crisis of form. He has plenty of credit for now. |

1. Yes I noticed that too. Mixed blessing, great to have them there to generate some atmosphere at that end but the surging is starting so could lead to a block being closed if numbers grow.
2. I actually thought the Northam started well and inevitably quietened when we went behind before responding to our recovery. Perhaps our perspective depends where you are.
3. 100 % agree. When I and others stand up and scream in the Kingsland we are met either by laughter of disapproval. People complained when some of us stood for the penalty. Whatever views people half of the atmosphere in the ground, I’m certain that the two side stands used to get a lot more involved than they do now. Have the same people just got older?
4. Pathetic support, didn’t hear a peep out of them after we equalised. I got a sense there were a few day trippers in there. Inevitably, some will leave when the game is lost, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mass exodus like that before, there must’ve only been a couple of hundred there at the end
5. I think they had quite a few out injured. They’ll be up there around the playoffs I would think. I think they thought they could bully us on the front foot but with the numbers they were committing forward and two upfront they gave us huge spaces in midfield. |

Who remembers Marco Almeida, the Portuguese mullet? Think he only played one game so doesn’t qualify but he was hopeless.

I thought more would’ve joined your Chapel Kop by now. Whilst I’ve decried the need to be next away fans to make noise, it did look fun in there at the end! As for the Northam, they do make good noise when the team is on top and pushing, but they are never there when the team needs lifting. Was that any different under the old set up though? |

Spot on with point 3. The crowd only got going once the team did, it’s never the other way round. Chants never last more than 20 seconds. Exactly right about people getting all the kit, proclaiming to be great fans and then spending the game in silence. I was all in favour of moving the away fans and still think having them in the corner is the right place for them. The ideal would have been to have them in the Kingsland Northam corner as per Boro, Norwich where they are placed next to the home end giving the best of both worlds. I know that wasn’t feasible but as often observed our fans need the interaction with the away fans sadly.
As for point 2, THB was becoming that leader. Whether it’s easy to find good leaders who are of the quality we need is probably not as straight forward as it seems. There seems to be less and less leaders in the modern game, character and individuality is knocked out of them at a young age through over coaching. [Post edited 24 Aug 11:31]

Are you seriously saying that our fans are worse than others on forums and social media? When I look on other forums I find the level of vitriol often goes beyond what is said on ours. Regarding examples, which keepers and players have suffered abuse and succeeded elsewhere after being hounded out? I also don’t recall Danso getting abuse, he was raw and mismanaged. Forster took some stick I agree, Gazzaniga too but neither have excelled beyond our level since leaving. As for Bazunu, there is no more to be said and I look forward to seeing Damien Downs holding aloft the Chanpions League with Madrid… [Post edited 30 Jul 7:41]

We can debate the move of away fans etc to death but the bigger issue is the lack of energy from around the whole ground. Bad tackles, refereeing decisions etc barely create more than a grumble where I am in The Kingsland. So many fans who spend a fortune on the latest kit/merchandise etc and yet sit in silence as soon as they enter the ground. Last night the crowd should’ve been helping the team over the line when we had people leaving in their droves and a match winning save leads to nothing more than a polite ripple of applause behind the goal. For all the decrying of St Mary’s, there’s no doubt that in the early years the atmosphere around the whole ground was far better than it is now. Matches traditionally under the lights used to be the best but it seems like it’s a chore for some. Crowds make atmospheres not grounds and we just don’t have enough fans who bring emotion into St Mary’s. |

Was at the Peterborough 4-4. A night of penalties I seem to recall- Lambert scored with 2, and a goal each from Hammond and Chaplow I think. Gutted when they scored with pretty much the last kick: another penalty. Great game though. Darren Ferguson his usual charming self afterwards, not happy with Chaplow winning one of the penalties with a dive in his eyes. |

As I said, I reserve judgement on Peretz, not sure yet. You’ve created the comparison by saying he’s no upgrade which people are disagreeing with. No one hates Bazunu personally. |

Silly comment to say hate him. I just don’t rate him and got sick of countless goals conceded that a better keeper at our level would keep out. Literally nobody else I know or read on this forum rates him, you are a lone voice Nick. I actually thought Bazunu had done ok since his recall but still lets too many in that many championship keeps wouldn’t. [Post edited 3 Feb 21:14]

Nonsense, Bazunu did well to get across goal, spread himself and it hit him. Peretz’s 2 saves at Stoke were beyond Bazunu’s ability, he’s nowhere near athletic enough to pull those off, particularly the low one Pertetz touched onto the post- no chance Bazunu saves that, the ball would’ve been past him before he got near it, too flat footed. Like others I find your continual defence of Bazunu baffling. BTW I am also reserving judgement on Peretz, and he certainly hasn’t convinced on crosses under the bar. However he’s clearly a far more able keeper in terms of athleticism and shot saving ability. |

True about the defences but he still played 80 odd games across 2 seasons as part of that defence therefore I can’t see how it can be said that he was one of our worst keepers. When playing behind an awful defence in the relegation to lg1 season he was player of the season I think. True he had plenty to do but nevertheless he kept scores down that season.
Someone mentioned Beasant, I’d defend him after the 95/96 season when he played a big part in keeping us up. Chris Woods on the other hand would be a contender, useless by the time he came to Saints |
