Probably Bens last chance at a World Cup too. Devastating for him and for us |

Thatās what Iām saying. They werenāt at all compatible but both played due to lack of competition and it didnāt do either of them any favours. On the occasions Allen was fit, they both looked better. Last couple of games, particularly Birmingham with Franco and Widdell a bit further up allowing Fulton to play to his strengths, heās looked really good. At the start of the season, I thought heād be slowly phased out, but he more than merits his place at the moment. |

His biggest problem for years was that him and Grimes just werenāt compatible. Neither players fault, their playing styles just didnāt suit each other, but played together for a long time due to lack of options. Grimes looked better when Fulton didnāt play and Fulton looks better now Grimes has left. Heās been one of our best players the last few games. |

First three points I agree with 100% Iām not sure on the drunkenness. People who want to get annihilated can do it before the game anyway. Violence isnāt the issue it used to be, though drinking in the stands could lead to isolated bouts of handbags. Probably linked to the obscuring views by going back and fore to the bar/toilet Overall I agree with you, leave it to the rugby. |

We need pace. Particularly when weāre a goal up after an hour and the opposition start pushing us back |

Felt slightly surreal going into the last few minutes with no tension. If we could make a habit of putting teams away when weāre on top, we could end up having a decent season |

I didnāt think we were at our best yesterday, but thatās what itās all about. Putting teams away fairly comfortably while not in top gear. Thatās the difference Matos has made. I thought Blackburn were a pretty poor team, but they did press aggressively in numbers for short spells. That may have been enough to get them a point against a Sheehan or Williams team |

In fairness, pretty much all the objections are around people getting up and down constantly, spilling beer etc Anyone who has been to a six nations game will know how regularly those type of things happen and how annoying they are. But the ban is in place to prevent fans getting tanked up and fighting. I do genuinely think weāve past that point now and while I donāt want to see drinking in the stands brought in, Iām not sure the actual reason itās banned is valid anymore |

Couldnāt agree with this more. My all encompassing pet peeves at games are People who canāt navigate a very basic numbers and letters system to find their seat People who donāt understand games start at 3.00 and half time lasts 15 minutes People who get up two or three times a half because theyāve out drunk their bladder I donāt really want to add people going back and fore for pints Sitting there with a beer for 45 minutes is fine and Iād do that myself. It would get spoiled by the people who go for a day out rather than the game, as you say, just like the rugby |

Thatās no different to what we have now? |

Iām not saying they wonāt start games, Iām saying they wonāt start and finish them. We need to get to the stage where our substitutions donāt weaken us. Birminghams didnāt weaken them yesterday and thatās been a recurring theme, putting us on the ropes late in games plenty of times this season. Someone to come on and do Vipotniks job was the obvious one yesterday. Midfield wise, I donāt think weāre too far from getting it right. |

In the first half while we were dominating, I thought it would be the perfect game for him. But youād probably have to leave Widdell out and on current form, thatās not an option. We need to get to the stage where substitutions are interchangeable and donāt weaken us. I donāt actually think weāre too far off it. We need someone to share the load up front though. |

The improvement in Widell since August is astounding. I agree, heās very much on an upward trajectory. People complained a lot about not signing a Lewis OāBrien type in the summer. We saw bits of that from both Widdell and Franco yesterday. Tussling to nick balls off opponents, winning the battle then immediately driving into gaps themselves or looking to play our wingers in. Much easier to attack a defence when they donāt have time to set |

I rate Cullen a lot higher than most on here, but not up front on his own. Once he comes on as a centre forward, nothing is going to stick, meaning we wonāt be able to get players up and around him and force opponents back. The consequence of that is exactly what you describe. Sitting deeper, opponents getting their tails up, losing control of the game and eventually being happy with a point when weād dominated for an hour. This is going to keep happening until⦠We bring in a loan striker Idah recovers Matos trusts Wales up front and Wales justifies it. Iām not sure Wales could do that role either. Heās taller than Cullen, but doesnāt seem physically equipped to battle with centre backs. Leaving Vipotnik on for 90 minutes every game isnāt going to work either. It will burn him out. |

Not sure why we didnāt see Stamenic today. With all our midfielders fit and Idah coming on for Vipotnik, we could keep that intensity up for a game. Especially if Key could get back to form and release Galbraith to play in the middle. As it stands, weāre going to drop a notch or two and struggle to hold the ball up when the substitutions happen |
 | Forum Reply | Swansea City v Birmingham City : Match day thread at 21:57 17 Jan 2026
Again, Vipotnik came off because he ran himself into the ground. With Idah out for a while, we need to loan a striker who can play the physical role. Cullen can press well enough, but heās never going to compete physically with centre backs. His role should be coming on for Widdell for 20/25 minutes, playing behind a physical striker, not competing for long balls. |

Itās not taking the foot off the gas, itās burning out. Widdell and Franco are being asked to play high intensity pressing game. The amount of times they turned Birmingham over in decent positions was phenomenal. I donāt think weāll get 90 minutes out of either of them very often, at least not a that intensity. That role is so demanding. The trick is winning the game before that point. We created enough chances |
