What a mean grumpy old sod
at 16:56 10 May 2016

Not at all. One of the photos show what looks like a single lid box at the foot of the cabinet. To me it looks like it might be a man hole which is a few meters deep. Plenty of room to cut back the cables (e sides), "tee in " the new cable then cut away the old. Making the cabinet obsolete. It could also be a multi lid box (overgrown by grass) which would be much shallower. Maybe just one meter deep. Either way the new cables would already be pulled through the duct, underground to the new position. If access was even refused to the manhole then new duct can be buried in the pavement between boxes farther away from this cab. Cables do not need to be accessed at this position. They can be diverted hundreds of meters from the cab if required it just costs more to do. The subs cables (d sides) are no bigger than one hundred pair cables at the foot of the cab. Very easy to work on and can be lengthened or shortened as required. It's a big job but nothing that can't be handled.

After Sunday's game heading to gatwick for a 6am flight to Nice. Then driving across Italy through Genoa, Pisa and Florence to Rimini and San Marino. Then two days in Venice and two at lake Garda before making our way back to Nice. Lots of pasta and vino (and coffee).

As an ex BT engineer myself, the solution should be to divert the cables feeding that cabinet to a new one on the pavement nearby. It is vital that we access these cabs to connect new customers weather it be for fibre or just a simple Pstn line. We also go there to test and measure any faults that exist on a phone line. As far as way leaves are concerned, people had a choice in the past. Either they had a one off payment or a very small annual payment that would guarantee the engineers legal access to the plant whenever it was required. That could be underground plant or poles in gardens or fields. But over time, people die or move and the agreements get forgotten about. I've had people complain at me for asking permission to get to something many times over the years but they are usually pretty good about it when they realise that I am just trying to help somebody get their phone working again. I can understand this guy being upset as its so far onto his land and engineers walking to it all the time will cause a muddy path to it. But the cables feeding it will first go through a carriageway or footway box before they are terminated in the cab. They can easily be diverted by pulling in new cables to a new position on the pavement nearby.

Longest Distance Goal Scored at The Vetch
at 23:16 12 Nov 2015

Think back to our promotion season in 1981. We had Bolton down the vetch and I think we won 3-0. One of Leighton James' goals was the longest distance shots I'd seen down there. We were playing towards the double decker. Leighton got hold of the ball in our half just in front of the dougout. He put his foot on it and just rolled it over the half way line. Then he smacked it. He'd been trying long range shots for a while but nothing like this. I still remember following the flight of the ball and the goalie diving. When it hit the top corner, it was still travelling. My second favourite goal ever. After leggies against Stoke.

Let's Reminisce You Oldies - Liverpool FA Cup Away 1990
at 14:22 10 Oct 2015

I had a spare ticket for the home game and sold it for a tenner outside the singleton. I had sixteen Liverpool fans staying at my house that night. It was carnage. They even slept in the bathroom and the hall. On the Monday, me and my mate got into his XR2 and left for Birkenhead where one of the lads ran a pub called the Richmond. There was a pint waiting for us when we arrived. On the day of the game, we drove over to old Trafford and managed to just walk in through an open door and had a full self guided tour of the stadium. Got some great photos holding up my swans scarf on the Stretford end. Then we drove to Goodison and managed to do pretty much the same thing. We got a lift in their big red minibus to the game. For some reason that I can't remember, we both wore sombreros. God knows why. It was January ffs. Stupidly, my mate left his ticket in the pub in Birkenhead so we told a steward and he took us to an office under the stand. After a quick chat, they escorted us through another door and into the away stand. We got ripped apart on the pitch but what a great night. Quite a few things happened on that trip that would never happen these days.

go down the hill and over the roundabouts. keep going down past the barccelo hotel. there is a junction down there with lots of bars. one of them will show it. I think the kings arms down the steps will be a good choice.

Went to Iceland in February with the wife for a long weekend in the snow. Currently lying on our bed in a hotel just outside Rome. Driving down to Pozzuoli which is just outside Naples today to meet up with friends I made last year while we were there with the swans.

Have to agree there. Not seen Lorraine for about thirty years now but have a lovely memory of her. My girlfriend at the time went to the end of season thing and won two tickets in the raffle to the FA cup final in 1986. She decided to put them back in the pot as she had no way of getting there. Then they were won by Lorraine. When she told me about it the next day, I was like "duh! I have a car". So she asked Lorraine if she could have the tickets back. Of course she said yes and we got to see the merseyside final. I don't remember if I ever got to thank her for that but I never forgot that gesture but it's always been appreciated.

Wouldn't it be funny if the winner had a stupid name such as Ivor Biggun.

Stand or Sit

I'd leave the lower tier as a seated and convert the northern half of the East upper to standing. It's where all the singing comes from. Could be up to five thousand swans fans singing their hearts out up there if they were standing. We'd make the stadium rock.

The Official Swansea City v West Ham United Match Day Thread
at 12:33 10 Jan 2015

No, that was the 11:30 kick off on Boxing Day. Our first season in div 1. i think the final result was 1-1. I remember it because it was only my second ever away trip. Me and my mate had climbed up on the small wall at our side of the toilets to watch. It was a hell of a sight when that wall fell down. All the fighting was on the toilet side of the wall. It was funny in a way because all the cops were going nuts as they couldn't do anything about it. Then due to the shear pressure of all the fans trying to get at each other, the wall just collapsed out. It was chaos there.

I also stand corrected. I should have known better:-

"You can't be offside if:
You receive the ball directly from a goal kick, a throw-in or a corner".

For their third goal, has anybody noticed that as the ball was kicked out fron the West Ham goal, Carroll was offside? The only replay that shows it is from behind our goal. All the others seem to show him well onside but he was well off.
