 | News Comment | Southampton At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict at 09:14:42
Totally agree, and the problem has been screaming out for a few seasons now. Oh for a Conor Coady! Lets re-assess after 10 matches and then say the same :( |
 | News Comment | Saints At Arsenal The Verdict at 13:25:29
A few of our team were below par, but to come away from playing Arsenal away, dissapointed with a draw, and in third place - come on! |
 | News Comment | Hasenhuttl Prioritises Academy Before Transfers But A Balance Needs To Be Struck at 10:32:11
I think you and I sing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to Saints transfers - quality CB missing for some time now, when it should have been top of the list. You're right about getting the right balance but we are just coming up to transfer window - I wonder if this "look at the academy first" talk is just part of the negotiating tactic i.e. we don't really need your player, we've got our own, but if we get him for the right price... |
 | News Comment | Time To Identify The Real Cause Of Saints Problems ! at 10:30:12
that's a long post but I think the key was right at the beginning "I have been saying now for three years about the central defence". Well so have I. All good teams need to start with a solid defence and that begins with the CB pair - preferably commanding in the air, quick, brave, organised, leading and distributing. A good pair that plays week in, week out. Its a lot to ask but we seem to be making a particularly bad job of it |
 | News Comment | Saints At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict at 11:01:11
I would rather have sorted the defence out as a priority and then worked my way up the field but Saints seem to be doing it the other way round. All well and good if you get the 2-3 goals to make up for the ones you're going to inevitably let in, but were not. You wonder what man-management issues are going on with the likes of Valery, Cedric, Danso and Bertie...but in Ralph we trust, I'm expecting 15-16th and then continue the rebuild. At least if things aren't going spectacularly well we might keep Ralph a little longer. |
 | News Comment | Saints At Burnley The Verdict at 09:47:02
I agree with most of that - yes, we all know the problem, experience wold have helped...oh and a bit of commitment from the CBs. I think PEH was unwell, so that's understandable. Nice for Chelsea to push us out of the relegation zone though. |
 | News Comment | Would Adam Lallana Be Welcomed Back To St Mary's ? at 10:16:36
He took the money and left. You can't blame him for that, but it wasn't the best of circumstances. Liverpool and Saints have moved on. He doesn't seem to fit the profile Ralph has hinted at. Someone younger, quicker, and less injury prone would be a less risky bet, and the squad already has too many fringe players. But I wish him well somewhere. |
 | News Comment | Harrison Reed Injury Could End His Season at 08:40:56
Your headline seems a bit over the top considering the comment "The medical department don’t think it’s too bad but they think it’s going to be a couple of weeks" |
 | News Comment | Saints At Huddersfield The Verdict at 11:19:54
Exciting times, and nice to feel some pride, and excitement, at being a Saints fan again. The style is what we've craved, and just now the games can't come quickly enough for us fans. Signing Ralph really raised expectations, and he hasn't disappointed - he could be a Saints legend on the current trajectory... But, I'm haunted by the comment someone put on the Saints forum yesterday - remember when Carvalhal came into Swansea and took them on a 5 wins out of 8 run ...they still got relegated. So, lets keep feet on the ground - but with one or two personnel changes out and in next month, we could be set for more exciting times ahead, for as long as we can hang on to Ralph - COYS!! |
 | News Comment | The Silly Season Begins at 10:19:28
The silly season never seems to stop these days, made especially worse with the viral increase in clickbait headlines looking for revenue - "Will 6' 4'' left handed manager splash out on £15m tattood goal machine for new club?...former page 3 model thinks so!" Look out for Poch to Man Utd, so Ralph to Spurs rumours |
 | News Comment | Saints At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict at 13:24:00
" two years ago a failure to replace Jose Fonte meant that when we lost Van Dijk through injury we had to soldier on for the rest of the season with last night's central defensive pairing" ...this is the crux of the problem. Saints failure to solve the CB partnership means there is no confidence or belief in the rest of the team...we know we will concede By the way - that first goal by Kane is just so embarrassing - there's no excuse, these guys are professional footballers!! |
 | News Comment | Do Saints Fans Still Have Faith In Mark Hughes ? at 12:15:22
We got lucky at the end of last year. Mark Hughes gave the team a kick up the backside and Swansea imploded just at the right time. We should be thankful to Hughes for that but now move on, his records isn't great and he was a whisker away from taking two teams down in a season! He should not have been given the job this season but its very easy to see why the board did so - it was the easy option after making a mistake with the two previous managers. Saints should change now, to give the new manager time, and a couple of changes in the team in January (out and in) |
 | News Comment | Why Hoedt Has To Be The Future And Yoshida The Past ! at 11:56:06
I don't know why its so hard to find a decent CB pair - you see some good ones in the championship, surely the black box can come up with something better than what we have!? I haven't seen enough of Hoedt but when I have he has looked a liability and doesn't inspire confidence. I suspect that feeling goes for the team as well as me. As for Stephens - you forgot "win a header" in the list of things he can't do. He seems mid championship level to be honest....not his fault, its more than any of us on here could do. Its been a problem for at least two seasons - you need a solid CB partnership! Hoping for the best, but with the realism of being a long suffering Saints fan |
 | News Comment | Saints After A Player Called Saints ! at 11:20:36
I agree 100% with the article - we still need that commanding experienced CB, but Marlon alongside sounds good. Also agree with the comments about Yoshida and Jack Stephens - great guys but not top half of the premier league quality. Pre season looking quite exciting though so far, lets see what the next week brings |
 | News Comment | Is Mark Hughes The Right Man For The Job ? at 11:31:47
I wrote about this on another post. I think the board will go with Hughes because it is the safe option and they've had their fingers burnt with the last two choices. No one would blame them if they kept him on, so why take a risk? and I think most Saints fans would be OK with that, me included Look at Swansea though - Carvalhal's first few games were amazing, with wins against Liverpool and Arsenal, a win away to Watford and a draw at Leicester. But then the new manager magic rubbed off and as you say they lost their last 5 games. It was Swansea that saved us, not a great turnaround by Saints, despite much more spirited performances at the end. You could say that Mark Hughes was within a whisker of taking two teams down this season - which sounds ungrateful, but is the cold facts of the situation. Glad its not me deciding! By the way, those giving the board a regular bashing should also take pause to recognise the good decision to buy Alex McCarthy, and then bring him in this season COYR |
