Saints Stars Individual Choice On Homophobia Campaign Weekend
at 17:08:49

These are now more tolerant times and a player's sexuality shouldn't be an issue anymore. Who cares which way a player leans as long as he can make a well-timed challenge and pass intelligently, or collect the ball outside the box, evade the defence and stick the ball in the net? I don't see a problem and I hope the initiative gets the support it deserves.

Saints V Barnsley The Verdict
at 12:46:28

Pochettino was hired, so it is said, for his ability to bring youngsters on and make great teams out of them - well, faithful servants like Sharp and Hammond etc aren't going to feature much any more when talented kids like isgrove, Rowe and Reed are waiting for their chance.
Reed in particular looks like he will be a very significant part of our future plans. He wasn't on for long last night but didn't put a foot wrong, and Rowe was a whisker away from a debut goal.

As Nick often says, adaptability is what it's all about nowadays and I found last night's game very encouraging on that front. There were indeed a lot of changes, but last night's squad had strength in depth and made light work of toothless opposition.

Another encouraging thing was the greed the players had for the goal. One might have thought after going 3-1 up after 65 mins the players might back off a bit - not a bit of it! We just kept on coming forward in waves with a queue of players waiting to pull the trigger in the penalty box. When the opposition is down - put the boot in! Score 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 20 more more more. This hunger for goals is a good sign for the future.
Goodness me how I would love us to draw Portsmouth in the FA Cup this year!

Another Week Another Rumour
at 14:24:01

Yes, the next level for us is where Swansea and West Brom are now, ie comfortable mid-table and just thinking about snapping at the heels of the big boys.
If we can achieve this over the next two seasons, then summer 2015 is when we really ought to be pushing on for European qualification. Hopefully by then our youth policy will be delivering and it will be easier to get at least one mega-signing.......

Saints Can Achieve Mathematical Survival This Weekend !
at 18:11:54

Yea well obviously we won't know exactly how many points we actually needed until the last game is over!
It's just that 42 is the earliest achievable total for us IF certain results go our way like the man says.
Over the last 10 seasons, it averages out that 36 points is enough for survival.
This varies from season to season obviously - West Ham were famously relegated with 42 points in 02-03 and 31 points would have been enough in 09-10.

From the start of the season I thought that if we averaged a point a game then 38 points would see us safe but I'm not arguing with 42 if results go our way elsewhere...

Can Saints Get Into Europe Next Season Through The Back Door ?
at 14:04:46

Well as Nick says there are a lot of maths and equations to work out yet - even if England qualify for one of the places, which obviously involves many more numbers and decimals and God knows what...

But if by some fluke we get the chance we should take it with both hands - we're a competitive club, right? The point is to win things, yes? The Europa League may be a long old haul from the 1st Qual Round but if you're in a competition then it's worth winning - look at the JPT...

I went along to see Fulham's first couple of qualifying games in the Europa League when they got in via the Fair Play method a couple of seasons ago. Their first game was against NSí Runavik and to be honest it was a casual jog around of a game and it was a very pleasant way to spend a June evening. If all the qualifiers are like that then let's have them.

A Weekend Without Saints The Preview
at 13:04:08

Good article NIck. I for one don't regret the weekends off now and then - gives the players time to get over knocks and niggles and kinda makes me savour the games more when they come.
But no weekend off for me - I am taking this opportunity to drive up to Fleetwood Town to see them play the mighty Daggers and top up my 92 clubs...

It Was 29 Years Ago Today That Saints Taught Liverpool To Play
at 17:05:48

I was in the middle at the back of the Milton end I especially remember the Archers going nuts at Danny's overhead kick and then 4ft 2inches Danny beating 6ft 4inches Hansen in the air for his header.
No wonder they don't like us on MOTD!

Saints At Leeds The Verdict
at 13:03:14

This game was lost before a ball was kicked as Leeds put out their first team and we put our reserves out with no players on the bench over 21. Leeds completely deserved the win - they were better organised all over the pitch and wanted the win so much more than we did.

With the exception of Mayuka who was our one spark up front and also Chaplow combative as ever we didnt really have a prayer. Isgrove looked quite bright when he came on - definitely one to watch for the future, but really you wouldn't have thought this was a major competition with a Wembley Final and a tilt at Europe on the end of it.

A bit of an insult really to those who made the journey - it cost me a day off work and in the region of £100 all told for me and my son to attend, and money is a bit tight for everyone these days. While I accept that we only played Spurs 48 hours ago and we have to keep the Premiership as a priority I would have thought some more of the first teamers could have been on the bench. Fitness shouldn't be an issue at this level, surely?

Well, it's another dent in the campaign and another lesson learnt, hopefully. We have to keep hoping, don't we?

Footie Traditions That Modern Technology Has Erased !
at 01:22:07

After a FA Cup game - if we won then when we all piled out of the ground everyone would huddle round whichever geezer had a crackly old transistor radio to listen to the next round draw.
Small groups of hushed fans strained to listen to the tinny voices...."and now over to LAncaster Gate for the *th Round FA Cup draw...."

Now its all Sunday afternoon, Jim Rosenthal and money.
I fukin hate whats happened to our game sometimes.

11th February 1984
at 01:55:18

My diary tells me I was at this game but I don't remember any of it to be honest. I remember the anticipation of the Blackburn game - BRFC, knowing the game was live on telly had printed their programmes early and they were being sold in local shops. I bought one (I think) in what is now ASDA in Chandlers Ford. I think it was Carrefours then, it was a long time ago.
I remember Chapman being a bit of a bogey player against us, whichever club he was with, whether it be Sunderland, Forest or Leeds, we should have signed him.
(Didnt he marry Leslie Ash?)

It Was 28 Years Ago Today
at 16:03:18

Yea a great day - went on the train. On the walk to the ground a programme seller had the shakes like he had Parkinsons - scared out of his f ukin mind poor guy.
I was in line with the right hand goal post about two-thirds of the way up. I will never ever forget that moment when Steve Moran popped that beauty in at the far post- went f ukin loopy. Fantastic! And the skates outside - you should have seen their f uck-ugly s hit eating faces! It was beautiful just beautiful.

Football is a game of great moments - no Saint will ever have a greater moment than that and it was my privilege to be there.

In Nigel We Trust
at 02:44:37

Nigel is the man for SFC - no question. When he came here we were 22nd in Div 3 and going nowhere, now we are top of Div 2. OK we have had a few bad results but no one wins all their games. Have a bit of faith in the gaffer he knows what has to be done. Lee will be a diamond and there will be others to follow...
