this week to see what contributors think was the best ever Saints
goal - except of course the next Saints goal is always the best one.

Saints V Manchester City The Verdict

Best goal at st Mary's? How about David Connolly's one against Middlesbrough in Oct/ Sept 2011? The one that finished off a 25 pass move involving most players over several minutes.

Boruc Out For Six Weeks
at 12:43:28

Ok so whose our reserve keeper for Wednesday if both Boric and Davis aren't fit? I thought it was Forecast but just seen he was released in the summer and now plays for Dartford on loan. How can someone worth a million 3 yrs ago fall from grace so quickly?
Will it be someone from the academy ? We've yet to produce a keeper from the academy so that would be good.

Time To Back Boruc
at 17:21:04

This bloke is paid a fortune to play for us. A true pru should not make this mistake . He has come close before to being beaten on the dribble. Moreover after Stoke he said he owed us 2 points. Trying to out dribble Arsenals finest is not the way to do it.

Saints At Arsenal The Verdict
at 12:44:19

Goalkeeper errors, generally, stand out more than if an outplayer makes them . So I need to be mindful of that when criticising Boric. But the point is he's made similar errors of judgment before - against Hull most recently ,but I recall other dribbling escapades he's been on that he's got away with but were unnecessary.

Surely a bloke in his thirties, an international player, safe in the team knows when to use professional judgment as be able to say to his boss , ok you want me to pass it out but on that occasion it was too risky so I booted it.

Shearer Is Wrong ! Its Sixty Years Not Thirty !

Another generation of promising players from 2004-6 were the likes of Surnam,McGoldrick, Mills and Blackstock. One or two of theses were early transfers into our academy' from another club , I know, but they represented useful products from our youth set-up.

Those 4 have had decent Championship careers ( though Surnam also had a sojourn in the premiership with Norwich).

Wonder if we hadn't been relegated they would have developed with us into better players and become more popularly associated with our academy. Any thoughts?

Who Is Saints Greatest Centre Forward ? Number 7 James Beattie
at 18:31:37

I liked Beattie for all the reasons you give,Nick. You might have mentioned his partnership with Phillips and that he was picked by England as a result of his time with Saints.

Could Artur Boruc Become Saints Greatest Ever Keeper ?
at 16:30:26

I will never know what Davis didn't improve sufficiently in his command of the area. After all he's a pro, he's got a coach all to himself more or less, he's got time to practice, he had some poor opposition in Div 1 to practice on and he must have known other no 1 s to speak to.
If he had made use of those aids I think he would be up there too, somewhere around. 4 th or 5 th.

Saints V Fulham The Verdict

Could say loads. But I was impressed with ward prowse . His best game for us ? Not just the set pieces - though impressive , he seemed to work much harder than usual ,winning far more balls than usual. Very pleasing.

Goals Do The Talking
at 20:04:21

Welcome AdamG .
I will take points over goals, as Mark 99 says.
BUT the lack of goals has been around since MP got here really. Having said that I think there's been an improvement .Goals from corners do count I.e cost us 2 points against Sunderland , and I think we should acknowledge the great corners from ward prowse leading to the goals. Good to to see Lalana scoring again after a long drought.

Key Signings In Key Areas Have Been Key To Success
at 16:54:24

Good article. I wouldn't disagree with it but would add Luke Shaws developing maturity and the the way Lalana, Morgan, Lambert and Fonte work as a unit, something they've done now since Div 1. Days.

Ramirez On Way Out ? Are We Really Surprised !
at 17:08:21

If he goes it will be another example of saints being unwise in their purchases of foreign players straight from abroad. There are so many. Is there any evidence that our overseas, European scouting system has leant any lessons from buying Mayuka, Gaston, Lee , de Ridder, forren - just to go back Jan 2012.

Just remembered another reason to be cheerful. We did sign a chorus for Guly when he came on. So that's progress ; let's remember to do that next time Fox plays.

Saints V Swansea City The Verdict

Reasons to be cheerful.
1. We scored a first half gal
2. Adam Lallana scored a goal
Best gk performance in 30 yrs? Maybe but after. 2 days reflection I still prefer Davis's at Leeds 2 seasons ago. It was pluckier, more spectacular , with an even worse defence before him than Sundays
