Another we let go!!!
at 09:32 6 Mar 2019

Have to agree..... we were never sure which version was playing, towards the end he looked increasingly disinterested! Also remember him starting well, then going missing in the second half!
Clearly a gifted player but it seemed he was only interested in phases, exciting play when it happened but very hot and cold. He certainly divided opinion, we all loved him when he contributed but were so frustrated when he wasn’t bothered!

Think he would have enjoyed our current pressing style and RH more than then, but in the end he made it obvious he wanted to leave.

Cardiff on and off the pitch

GK I'm not deeply offended, just suggesting you keep away from using personal terms instead of sticking to facts. My general rule is not to use any language online that I wouldn’t use face to face, so calling me a soppy minge mop is a ridiculous lack of manners that you would not use if we were talking!

We stand side by side in supporting our team, but some people are once again getting concerned that hope might not get the results. Reality is we need to beat Fulham and get back the energy.
I know all about never say die and taking on the fight all as one, believe me I have experience.

Cardiff on and off the pitch
at 10:55 10 Feb 2019

Excuse me I'm no different as a fan today than our time at the Dell!
If you don’t; agree with another loyal fan stating his view of reality, please refrain from being so offensive!
Just explain your opinion and we can all gain some knowledge!
I thank LH for applying a lot more balanced reply, fans are often emotional, but I never swung to over-optimistic when we got some points, and I'm not over pessimistic now were riddled with mistakes. My comments about beating Fulham are no more sensational than Ralph saying if we don’t stop the mistakes, we have no chance of staying up!
But as LH mentioned, nothing is entirely predictable, and we may yet get some long overdue luck, or points where none was expected.

From my point of view, I intend to continue posting my views and feelings on this MONG board respecting other fans views. Your personal rudeness is not needed and not effective!

Cardiff on and off the pitch

The Palace game was a shock and we all expected a reaction and less sloppy mistakes, unfortunately it didn’t happen, now our momentum has slid backwards!

Ralph is so fuming he has dared to state the obvious, saying if we don't stop these mistakes, we’ve no chance of staying up!

He's a smart manager and we must wonder if he supported the squad reduction without any strengthening, I don’t buy the story that he was happy to finish the season with this squad! Thought this was a must win game, now its beat Fulham or its over!

Shane Long

He was ineffective and playing him was not likely to work!
He was never going to get through balls to chase or turn the last defender and run at goal.
Cardiff were expected to play deep, and they did play deep! Long cannot hold the ball up and play others in, so he was the wrong choice for this game. Armstrong could have worked well with Redmond, and Austin on earlier with some service seemed worth a try. But in the end, it was a painful display that showed so many problems still exist despite our earlier bounce!

Surely Ralph can get Vestergaard to man up and take control in the box, size is a natural advantage, but he must impose himself and direct others! We expected him to lead at the back, he has serious top-level experience from all his appearances for Borussia Mönchengladbach. Someone needs to be strong and take control, it will lift performances all round. But he seems a bit lost and incredibly vulnerable to most striker’s movement and physical style! When others make mistakes, he is not ready and prepared to clear up the mess, just back off towards his goal and fail to shout any instructions.
I make no apology for criticising a single player, because we paid a decent price for a supposedly well-developed CB that would improve further. Well I’m just not seeing it!

Armstrong would have created more chances today, but even he would struggle with such slow build up play!

I also thought we were set up to keep possession Tim, and any movement forward was so slow and so predictable, Cardiff were happy to let us play in front of them until we got crowded-out in the final third!

The defence, what can you say, can't believe the first goal from a corner, keep thinking Vestergaard will take control and use his large physique to advantage. But he stepped forward from zonal to man marking and didn't even jump to defend the space. Is he scared or just ball-watching? It's so mysterious that we have seen no improvement to defending set pieces!
I started to hope we had some momentum, although never to the extent of believing 7 points from these three critical games, but 5 was a reasonable ask!
Our pain continues, we started to look decent with energetic, high pressing and quick first touch passing, it was virtually absent today. The result was a wall of blue shirts waiting for the mistake and their counter attack.

My personal take on yesterday's game.
at 17:22 3 Feb 2019

It was tough travelling home after being so close, but we had enjoyed some good fortune before the inevitable Crouch effect! I have also now settled on the one point.

The McCarthy incident was a clear penalty and from where we stood it was an unbelievable referee decision, but we were happy to get some good luck. Then Woods was clear to shoot just outside the 6-yard box and skied it with McCarthy at his mercy.
And late on Barnes hit the crossbar from close range. We had some luck.

When Crouch came on the tactic was obvious and Burnley never deviated, keep putting high balls into the box and help him cause chaos. He's always been difficult to control around the box, but we made no effort to cut-off his supply. By not closing down the wide players and staying narrow we were inviting an aerial battle, with experience always likely to win! That's the rub, we all knew the route one onslaught was coming but had no answer!

Guess your journey would have been OK being all motorways and say 2 hours each way, but it always seems longer when the result is not what you hoped. Let's hope Cardiff have had their good game and we get a solid result at St Mary's!

To be correct I never said everything he did was crap, it's just that when he was bad it was game changing! I have no appetite to write a thesis on a simple difference of opinion, he did contribute at Swansea with various players coming in behind to cover the errors. I still respect your views regardless of your respect for mine!

Suspect you are right stating he wanted to go, any player that wanted to play would prefer a loan to not getting picked. Ralph was not going to expose the team by picking him, even allowing a fresh start he was not seeing enough, if any improvement.

Nick - why do I need to explain that he was not good, perhaps you should tell Ralph that what he saw on the training pitches was not relevant.
He was dreadful from the start of this season, and if you feel the need to tell us he saved our season at Swansea, well that’s not what I saw! Swansea played a terrible match and even so everyone was a defender at times!

Guess we must agree to disagree, respect your views but am struggling to find many others that thought we should risk losing more points by picking him!

So many similarities to his disastrous spell in the PL, 'fans to blame, and not the worst' are familiar comments heard when he played for us!
Guess he's just very unlucky to be coached and played by different managers, then play terrible matches that are not his fault!

Those who watched him in our shirt will never forget how teams targeted his weakness and passed him with ease!

Good luck to him in Spain, hope he gets his act together in less pressured football and we make the sale!

What's going to happen in the next couple of days
at 09:46 29 Jan 2019

Your probably right about Charlie staying in the UK because of his other interests! But it may cost him if he’s unable to secure another PL club, many feel he plays at Championship level.
He's still a good option for the final 30-mins when defenders are tiring, but RH seems unimpressed! Hope he's been talking to a good quality replacement.

Think some of these 'short-term'' players were actually rugby players recruited by Clive Woodward.

Good posting, my selective memeory had forgotten so many!

Ralph and team discipline
at 16:42 24 Jan 2019

He is a special man and he is certainly using military type squad discipline tactics; no individual is bigger than the team, and they must commit.
Think he may have served in the Austrian Jagdkommando or similar, if not he has read and rehearsed the Royal Marines handbook, once a player shows total support for the cause he will receive total support back!

Some man, combining modern football coaching with such discipline.

Wow - that’s really strange, gifting shots on goal and being beaten in the final third, and he needed an explanation. He must realize that a central defender needs to defend!
RH had an easy decision!

No need to worry GK he's only out on loan!
If he improves massively, we could see him back in the squad.

He has showed a shocking lack of ability on the pitch, and he appears to be third choice for his position. Not very promising when young academy players are showing more during training sessions.

Not sure how much pressing or physical defending he has experienced at Basel, but in the PL he has been krap!!

I hope you are correct and he makes a massive improvement, we need him playing at PL level and he has cost serious money!
