Back In the late 60's I was In the Army In Western Germany, I was on a driving course with a few other Lads In a long wheelbase Land Rover, we were stationed In Celle.
We stopped the Land rover and the Instructor asked all of us If we wanted to visit Belsen concentration camp as It was nearby, It was a Fifty-Fifty split between us and I was In the No camp however the decision was taken to visit the place on the grounds that you didn't have to go In If you didn't want to.
We parked up and everyone of the Lads went In so I decided to do the same, bear In mind that we're late Teenage Lads with far too much attitude and ignorance, all we wanted as Squaddies was to get drunk at the weekends and fight with each other and chase Girls.
30 odd minutes later we all came out In dribs and drabs and got back In the Land Rover totally silent, not a word from any of us.
The Instructor asked us for our thoughts, but nobody said anything, there was something about the grounds In the concentration camp that although prominent wasn't glaringly obvious until the Instructor mentioned the awful eerie silence, for the camp to be In the middle of a forest one of the lads also noticed there were no birds flying over the camp.
As I mentioned earlier we were all young Lads (basically yobs) but In effect we were struck dumb by the horror of It all.

It took a while to leave me, but It's a day I'll never forget.

The UK’s largest water company Thames Water is scrambling to find extra cash, as it handed out millions of pounds worth of dividends to shareholders and bonuses to top bosses in recent years.

The stark update highlights the deepening financial woes for the firm which is sitting on a debt pile of £14.7 billion.

The stark update highlights the deepening financial woes for the firm which is sitting on a debt pile of £14.7 billion.

It has come under pressure from water regulator Ofwat to improve its financial performance amid mounting concerns over its future.

Despite the troubles, Thames Water revealed in December that it paid a £37.5 million dividend to a parent company.

When asked to explain the move by Ofwat, Thames said the money had been moved to help pay its debts.

In the year to the end of March 2023, it paid out about £45 million in dividends, and the previous two years it handed out a combined £53.9 million.

But the firm stresses that it has not paid a dividend to “external shareholders” for at least the past five years.

Confession time - Play off winners
at 21:15 27 May 2024

It was great a great fcking day out regardless of who was playing for us.

By the time we got back to the car and got onto the South Circular I mentioned to one of the lads that all we needed now was for Redknapp to pack his bags and f uck off which of course he didn't.

You can find fault with most If not all of those players who wore our shirt that day, I don't see the need for that though.

On a personal level I don't need to like or dislike our players, I need them to turn up on time and earn their money, that'll do for me.

When we went to WHL some three Months later after the play off final all of the euphoria had disappeared by half time as we were comfortably second best.

Richard Dunne was Incredible that day absolutely Incredible he ''owned'' Derby County.

When Bobby Zamora received the ball there was a moment In time when for less than a nanosecond his eyes looked into the corner of the Derby net he then proceeded to deliver said ball to the exact spot he had previously had a quick peep at, Derby had 95 minutes to do what Bobby Zamora had just done but they couldn't because we were too good for them.
Ipso facto the best team on the day won the game.

I'd Imagine you'll vote nearer the time Loftboy.

I've spent a million years In the Labour party and a few Years ago I used to work In the Labour party headquarters In Newbury that used to be down by the station during one of the GE's. (licking envelopes that sort of thing)
The Tory majority In Newbury was huge beyond belief and they were duly re-elected, people might say I was wasting my time trying to fight against such a huge majority but that's not for me I didn't see It that way.
Can't preach/wont preach but I would urge anyone who's anyone to use your vote, It's so-so very valuable.
The last time I looked my old Labour club In Newbury had become a Conservative club (LOL and all that)

Unfortunately or not as the case may be, they are currently the most powerful football club probably ever seen and that Includes on the pitch too.
I have no interest who wins the Premier league or who plays in the damned thing but It's football so I have a 'passing Interest' In this 'issue'
Man City as I understand It have 115 charges laid against them, again I also understand reading between the lines that a hearing has been set for later this Year???? lets call It November 2024 by which time Man City will already be top of the league and sailing off into the distance.

Again It's got nothing to do with me but I want my bloody pound of flesh please, they were served with these 115 charges Months ago, don't give me any bullshit get the f uck on with It, the time for 'liquid lunches' has passed.

Camping
at 21:16 20 May 2024

I've camped In Western Germany, Libya, Norway, Northern Ireland, Salisbury Plain and the bloody Brecon Beacons.
Small tents-big tents-smelly tents, we spent Six weeks In the Libyan desert 80 odd miles South of Tripoli, drinking and washing water was severely rationed and by week Four even the Libyan flies had left the camp due to us being stinky.
The Army called In the Engineers who erected a massive tent complete with Internal pipe work, water bowsers were brought In from the North and connected up, we were each Issued a small bar of carbolic soap told to strip and when the whistle went, In we went and out the other end, the problem though was the water would only come down In certain areas so consequently you had Sixty odd squaddies running naked covered In carbolic soap lather trying to get rinsed off but slipping and sliding and going a rse over tit all over the place, that Image still sometimes haunts me.

A couple of weeks later Gaddafi had ceased power and Instructed us to leave with safe passage. Thank f uck for the RAF.

My camping tip would be avoid camping at all cost as I have done ever since leaving the Army.

I've been there a few times, first time was when Rodney Marsh scored the winner with a header In the dying seconds. Early 1970's.
Was there when they beat us 5-0 one night, Alan McDonald walked over to us In the away end and picked up a beer bottle that one of our lot threw on the pitch, he glared at us, cant remember our Managers name but he got his car smashed up outside the ground, they were not good times back then.
