In Jack Cork, Monk May Have a New Main Man
at 11:45:21

saints fans will all tell you how much we liked JC - reads the game well, intercepts without having to make too many tackles, rarely gives the ball away and has a good short passing game. Plus he always a 7 or 8 out of 10. he rarely has an off day.

we only sold him because he wasn't guaranteed a spot in the 1st 11 and his contract was coming to an end

he will get better with age as he doesn't rely on pace

the only time he can look uncomfortable is against the hoofing teams when he can get a bit over-run but with a good shape to the team when you don't have the ball (which swansea seem to have this season) this shouldn't be a problem

If NC is going to go then go. The brinksmanship if not good for the club. While he has been hands on and good for the club, we will survive. Let's not keep this going until the end of the season.

If there is disagreement I think its important that the fans get told the plans for the club by the owners - this should not be open just to speculation. My concern is that they sell to a group that ladens the club with debt and asset strips to pay down the debt - we are a prime target with our young players for such a business model.

No early or easy goals for the arse and we will get stronger and they will get nervous. Their defence is not as coherent as it should be. Fancy Lovren to score the first ...

No Real Answers For Roy At Wembley
at 15:17:45

Saints would have beaten Germany let along England. England are still hamstrung by tactics from the 1980s. It's impossible to get the creative player to play in the final third if they have to all drop back to protect the fullbacks

Morgan and VW would have permitted Adam, Rooney and Sturridge to use the ball in the right parts of the pitch. I do think Rooney should come play at Saints though. HIs work rate would fit in so well under MP

Saints At Manchester United The Verdict
at 15:51:27

I wonder how many man utd players from Saturday we would have wanted in our team. answer, the front 2 for sure. ours are not quite firing as yet and we really do need someone with pace and width. lallana is almost back to his best, which is fantastic while the back 7 are truly a great defensive unit.

It is great that we are in this position and yet most agree we've not yet his our cohesive best ..... yet. someone is going to get a spanking when we do

Danny Fox To Join Bolton On Loan
at 16:51:11

Thanks to DF for his great contribution - he really isn't a PL defender but I wouldn't question his attitude and his dead ball accuracy is impressive. If Bolton have a solid left sided midfielder to share the defensive burden he will do fine. If they don't then in the games they are not on top .........

wish him well

Saints At Liverpool The Verdict
at 15:41:59

I could only get tickets in the Liverpool end. It was an interesting perspective and we deserved to win.

Our back 4 plus Boruc looked fantastic. While Lovren will get plaudits (deservedly) Clyne is such a good defender ..... he is so difficult to beat. I agree that VW gave the ball away but he destroyed the LFC midfield. Their crowd were howling every time he took the ball off them - he bullied them. He needs to learn the Cork trick of retaining possession. He will learn. Our midfield put in a fantastic shift and, more generally, when we don't have the ball, everyone seems to know what they should be doing. We also look better when the opposition actually wants to attack

Our forwards were incredibly sloppy in the 1st half. Osvaldo gave the ball away too often while SRL looked lost next to him. SRL either needs to come short to receive the ball or peel off to the back post to take the crosses from full backs. DO passing for Ricky to run on to the ball will never work.

We looked much more effective once we had scored and SD came on. Suddenly we looked capable of holding the ball further up the park and breaking at speed. I think this was as a result of LFC having to go for goal. AL and JRod worked hard. We have to get AL on the ball more often
Overall it was a great day to be a saints fan

We need to get an early goal in a game and then I think thigs will clci

The FairyTale Of Southampton City

I think the roof came off the house when he scored. I just feel so pleased for him and proud of him. He just knows where the goal is .... he holds the ball up ...... he passes the ball like a number 10 ...... kick like a mule .... and a totally decent bloke

those moments don't come along very often in life

awesome

Chaplow Heads To Sarf East London
at 18:14:20

what a bargain signing he was - and a really important player in 1st half championship season (when we were at our best). He has a good engine and his short game was really good. He did not look at all out of pace playing with those guys still in our 1st team. If he hadn't been injured I think he might have got more game time in PL but somehow his moment was gone.

Millwall have a really good player - especially at the championship level. He wants to play football, not train all week and then not play Saturday. I also think he will get better as he gets older

Best game for me was that vs Forest at home ........ everywhere

Sorry to see those guys leave who got us to this level and who were really part of that team

Player Review 12/13 Gaston Ramirez
at 13:06:22

He is a young guy who made a good early impact and then struggled. He really is very skillful and has a great left foot. My criticism of his home form was that he lost possession by trying to do too much, too often . Dribbling with the ball in the middle of the park when you are not blessed with real pace is great for the opposition - they just crowd you out. He has to gain the experience to improve his decision making and needs to lift his head to make the pass, ie vary his game .....

It's not clear when we are away from home (and on the back foot) that he gets involved enough on the ball to justify his inclusion, but then I used to say the same about a young MLT. He is certainly not a wide man IMO - his defensive work is just not good enough

Thing is, we have all been brought up on skilful players who can do something different - its what excites us and we really really want gaston to succeed. You can just feel it in the crowd. Having him, SRL and AL together should be a thing to behold.

Fingers crossed for next year

Player Review 12/13 - Guly
at 12:44:24

it is hard to be enigmatic when you don't quite have the quality ...... We know what it looks like when it is tied to brilliance

At this level he cannot control a game, and does not have the moment of brilliance to win one ... therefore the best he can be is tidy.

A championship side that wants to pass the ball would be good for him

Saints At Sunderland The Verdict
at 10:46:17

Shows how far we have come the last couple of year that we are disappointed not to take 3 points

We desperately need to strengthen the centre of defence - and we need pace out wide .... and when Lallana is off form we lack that little bit of class. It must be tough for AL - never really got his form back after the injury and for the 1st time in a few years, he's not the best player on the pitch. He will come good next year. In the meantime, Punch in better form

Wonder who he will give a go on Sunday if things are comfortable

Saints Player Of The Year - The Candidates
at 02:01:04

My player of the year is Morgan - our best central midfielder since Steve WIlliams

Second would be SRL, the talisman for the team - his header away at Chelsea just after coming on was just immense ..... plus so many other great moments. Fingers crossed he gets an England call up

3rd would be young Luke Shaw -no more to be said about him really

I feel guilty not putting Jack Cork in my top 3 ...... Next year

Can Saints Now Target 10th Place ?
at 17:05:12

we still need to stop the keystone cops impersonation that comes out at some point in every game amongst our centre backs (mostly) - the play that led to the la fondre miss was just dreadful

If we can stop those incidents, we look solid at worst and very inventive and hard working at best ...... still not a the standard of '84 but next year just might be interesting

It Was 29 Years Ago Today That Saints Taught Liverpool To Play
at 23:01:55

remember that game so well and so many others that season, esp the pompey game at FP

Steve Williams really was a magnificent player that year

I would add that the 4-1 spanking we gave them in 1989 was as (if not more) impressive with le tiss and rod Wallace totally unplayable that day; while the valentines 4-2 in 1994 with MLT getting a hatrick was also pretty special

Saints V Manchester City The Verdict

great game - what was different was the last 20 minutes. we played a mucher line up the park rather than defending our penalty area ....... waiting for jos to hit an og. jos had his best game in a saints shirt. I think cork would have got my MOM award but frankly it could have been any from half a dozen.

The new approach is to take pressure off the back line, making them look less chaotic ...

The Enigma That Is Ramirez
at 12:53:26

It's a tricky one .... If AL had got injured this year, we are way short of the talent required to unlock a defence. If AL on form, another mercurial player is a luxury, especially away from home. He is 22, and clearly struggling, but he has got real potential. I am not sure we can ever rely on developing that kind of talent ... and we couldn't afford him if his potential was fulfilled

The same could be said for Jay Rodriguez ..... if SRL got injured how would we score enough goals to stay up. I am not sure he would score if SRL was injured but he has got great work rate and his touch is improving. The question remains whether he has the finishing skills to be a top striker ... but I remember it took a certain Alan Shearer a bit of time to find his feet at the top level

Your article is certainly fair enough given how poor we look at the back while we spent all the money on the 2 positions covering our best players

It made me smile to hear that Adkins in line for Chelsea job because he knows how to build a team ........

He shouldn't take the Blackpool job - they will never be sustainable in the top division

wait for the right right job - he doesn't need "any" job with his record and payoff

Nigel Adkins A Thank You From The Fans
at 12:53:05

I am still just so pissed off .... I support a football club ..... we were together as one

Objectively - even with NA we had a 1st team coach rather than a manager .... with that structure that means we could have changed coaching team without firing NA if we needed ..... I though we had a Director of football who oversaw youth system .. and don't we have a bunch of ex-youth players. I also thought NC oversaw transfers ........

My response to Simmo70 is that we all rely on goodwill to have a culture that permits errors and mistakes. NC has just removed that net ........... If we don't improve with our new man the club will go back to the days of RL. It will get ugly.

You ignore the views of fans at your peril ...... We were enjoying being saints fans again and he ignored us and fired someone we respected ..... without explaining it in a way that makes sense other than "I just wanted to". Well that wont do for me

Now I am pissed off all over again

So NC, I think we as supporters are owed an explanation..... ........ and soon
