Dreadful. Many fans stayed away because they knew it would be. Watching Saints in recent seasons has been like watching a tarantula lay it’s eggs in your ball sack. Bloody painful and you know there is worse to come. Too many average players and a huge wage bill. Shane Long is a joke. He spends all of his time trying to draw a foul and couldn’t trap a bag of cement. He ends up chasing his first touch all over the pitch. Rumours are that Long is on £60-80k a week - whoever signed off on that deal should be sacked. As for Hoedt - he is the worst defender I have seen in years. At times this year he has looked like a one-legged man trying to stand up in a hammock. If you think I am exaggerating - watch their second goal. How have we managed to acquire such mediocrity? Clear out needed. ASAP. |

Average squad + a system that fails to get the best from individuals = recipe for disaster. Our offensive players are poor. Redmond is dreadful. His ratio of shots to goals is the worst in the league. He doesn’t have the vision to pick a pass in the last third, and most of his play is entirely predictable. And to top it all his body language suggests that he believes it is all someone else’s fault. Long has scored once in 20+ games. Tadic has little impact and Bouffal is inconsistent. Gabiadini must wonder what the hell is going on. He is lucky to get one chance per game. Add to this the fact that the gk is having a poor season and relegation starts to figure. Having said that, Saints have had weak teams in the past and fans have stuck by them. There is a distinct qualitative difference now - the style of football is BORING. As a regular for 40+ years it is the worst “entertainment value†since Branfoot. At least then I didn’t have to pay nearly £50 to get in. Fans deserve more. If the current system prevails for much longer it will turn St. Mary’s into a morgue. |

Les Reed has questions to answer. Total lack of strategic thinking - the very thing he is supposed to provide. Doesn't matter whether it was arrogance or ineptitude- he has failed. We have a squad of very average players who are collectively under-performing. Losing a Euro Champs winning centre half was only the most recent spectacular error. Saints fans will view the final with some trepidation... |
