Great Scot! - Rams Planning SPL Invasion For 11/12?
Great Scot! - Rams Planning SPL Invasion For 11/12?
Sunday, 22nd May 2011 13:13 by Daniel J Sewart

To date many Rams transfer rumours seem to be very similar when it comes to one main factor – geography. If you believe the reports then DCFC could experience an invasion of players from the SPL in 11/12.

Firstly there was RamZone’s scoop on Friday revealing that Nigel Clough had a scout watching Adam Rooney an Irishman who plies his trade at Inverness. The striker has managed over 20 goals this season and the former Stoke player is attracting attention amongst Championship clubs.

Yesterday there were red-hot reports that the Rams were very close to sealing a deal for another Scotland based striker in Aberdeen’s Chris Maguire.

If they are correct then we could see him signed as early as next week if Derby can sort out a compensation deal of close to half a million pounds, that will be required for the transfer to be rubber stamped.

At 22 years of age Maguire is seen as a prospect for the future and will turn down a two year contract at Aberdeen if he instead heads to Pride Park. After scoring 12 goals in just over 40 appearances this season he is a player many think is ready to blossom which he will need to if he is to make the step up to Championship football.

The Third ‘Mu-scot-teer’ is Craig Bryson, a hard working midfielder for Kilmarnock who is not only Captain of the club but a full international for Scotland. Bryson still has a year to run on his contract and it is believed the Rams would need to offer at least a quarter of a million pounds for the player to be released.

The other transfer rumour relates to everyone’s favourite flag waving Forest player – Nathan Tyson. Tyson has netted 33 times 176 matches but struggled to find the goals this season with a very poor return of 2 in 30 matches.

Not exactly stunning form but perhaps a change of scenery is necessary for the 29 year old to re-ignite his career.

Derby would seem a strange place to do it as he is about as popular finding a thumb tack on your seat and would have much work to do to win over fans. I doubt Nathan can do a Sav but scoring goals would go a long way towards helping.

As we have stated quite a bit this week on RamZone, so far it seems that the players touted for transfer are not exactly ‘proven’ Championship players as promised.

Any player from Scotland has a lot to prove as it seems there is fast becoming a larger gap between the quality of football played in the SPL and the Championship.

As Tyson is the only Championship name hotly linked with the Rams - once again that is far from encouraging. His inability to score goals and a slow decline in form could mean if he became a Ram there would need to be a stunning resurrection or otherwise it would be seen as a risk that could have otherwise been avoided.

Only Martyn Waghorn is a proven name at this level but it seems the Rams will be facing an uphill battle to capture his signature – that is unless they are willing to up their already rejected bid worth over a million pounds.

Things are hotting up and it would seem that soon rumours and names will become signatures on contracts.

Only then will we be able to truly assess which direction the Rams are headed in.

So far I have scot as much idea as you!!

Who do you think of the names Derby has been linked with so far?

Tyson's a good player, he hasn't scored because he has been playing right out on the wing. I wish he was signing again for us, but has been shown the door after stating that he wants to stay. An error I think. He cant hit a barn door as a striker, but as a winger he causes anyone problems.
