Pugh! Man U plan to stink out ER with B O

......that's Berbatov and Owen.

Beaten Champions League finalists Manchester United will send a mixture of rookies and forgotten men into the Elland Road cauldron of hate.

Around 35,000 are expected inside the famous old ground tonight for the visit of the one-time whites' rivals in the Carling Cup Third Round.

Recent times have seen Oldham replace the Red Devils as our transpennine rivals, but buoyed by that shock FA Cup result nearly two years ago, the Leeds fans will want to prove to Manchester that in their case absence does not make the heart grow fonder.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who famously underestimated the Whites' then of League One in January 2010 is expected to name two strikers who are very much surplus to requirements these days, Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen in the hope that they can kill Leeds off.

Other big-guns expected to start are Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs, who no doubt will get reminded of recent alleged off-field events.

The names of Paul Pogba, Tom Thorpe, Ezekiel Fryers, Larnell Cole, Michael and Will Keane will not mean a lot to Yorkshiremen, however the latest crop of the Old Trafford academy are expected to be on show tonight.

Other than the 1-1 draw at Benfica in last week's Champions League curtain raiser, the Reds have been in awesome form as they have stormed to the top of the Premiership.

Leeds are boosted by the news that Danny Pugh should be returning to Elland Road later this week, a loan deal agreed with Stoke with the view of the move becoming permanent in January. I rated Pugh very much in his first spell at ER and am delighted to see him back. Ironically he bagn his career at tonight's visitors and was makeweight in the deal that took Alan Smith west in 2004.

Simon Grayson will be forced into at least one change, Paddy Kisnorbo's red-card on Satyurday means he will sit this one out and Leigh Bromby is expected to step up to the challenge. Personally Id like to see Tom Lee's team up with Darren O'Dea at Centre-Half with Paul Connolly coming in at right-back.

Id expect Larry will go for a pretty much full-strength squad despite our long trip to Brighton in just 72 hours time and I fancy Becchio to start tonight alongside Mikkael Forsell. That's my hunch.

It was comical to read Ken Bates thanking our old friends from Manchester for not wanting to play us on Wednesday (they played Chelsea on Sunday) in view of the Brighton game on Friday night. I doubt there will be many, if any, of the side that beat Chelsea start at ER tonight!

As for my prediction, I just feel they will have too much quality and Ferguson, stung by that defeat 20 months ago, will not make the same mistake in underestimating us twice so I'm going for a United 1- Man United 3 scoreline.
