Football League Plays God
Football League Plays God

The Football League is once again at the centre of controversy.

If press reports are to be believed, the only thing blocking the Pinnacle group takeover of Saints is not money but the football League itself.

Apparently they are refusing to sanction the transfer of the League Licence unless Pinnacle agree not to appeal against the ten point deduction imposed upon the club for entering administration. That deduction in itself was controversial given the circumstances and many considered that the League, as is usual had acted hastily and without thinking of the consequences when imposing the deduction.

Now it seems they are denying Saints the right of a fair trial and attempting to cover up their own tracks, by blackmailing potential new owners of the club into accepting the deduction regardless of whether its is either A Legal or B Fair. Surely the FA must be confident in their decision if it was the right one, but to be blunt this smacks of bullying tactics from an organisation that knows once agin its made a blunder and is now trying to cover it up.

Looking at various message boards it seems that many Saints supporters are at the stage where they just want to see their club saved and therefore would be happy to see Pinnacle back down and surrender meekly to the FA, however it runs far deeper than that and Saints need to stand up to the FA on behalf of the smaller Clubs, would the FA be playing hard ball if Saints were being taken over by say someone with the financial clout of the Glazers, Paul Allen or even an Arab Oil Sheik, the answer would be no, money talks, the FA like the MP's in the current expenses scandal, are trying to cover their tracks and arrogantly expect the public to meekly accept it.

Of course its not good for Southampton Football Club, but we have to stand up for what is right, over the years this Club has been seen as being run on ethical lines and doing the right thing, clearly Pinnacle are not prepared to start their tenure at St Mary's by allowing themselves to be bullied, it wouldnt happen in business so why should it happen in football.

A stand for what is right needs to be taken, otherwise we might just as well shut down every other league bar the Premier and reduce that to just four clubs plus invited guests who have touched their forelocks sufficiently enough to be allowed to play the great and mighty
