Adam Matthews believes Cardiff can win the return derby fixture in April as he celebrated his Wales call up

With a family hailing from Swansea but wearing the blue of Cardiff it was understandable that Matthews would get jeered last Saturday as he played his part in an exciting derby that was deservedly won by the Swans 3-2.

Matthews readily admits that they were beaten by the better team on the day but wants the scores evening when the two sides meet at the Cardiff City Stadium in April.

Speaking to the Evening Post, Matthews said "I think on the day they were the better team. We didn't deserve to win, but in Cardiff I think we'll give them a better game and hopefully we can win

"The manager wasn't happy, he told us we didn't perform on the day, but hopefully all that's forgotten now.

"I got booed every time I got the ball, which is to be expected, and when I was taking throw-ins I got a bit of stick, but it was all in good spirit.

"Joe (Allen) and Ashley (Williams) haven't said much yet, but I'm sure they'll remind me about the game sometime in the week."

Matthews will be in the Wales squad to face Scotland at his home ground on Saturday and he added "I was very surprised when I heard the news. Dave Jones called me into his office and I thought he was going to talk about the game on Saturday, but obviously I was happy with the news.

"At the start of the season I was just expecting to be on the bench and make a few substitute appearances, I didn't expect a Wales call."
