Allen Plays Down Peer Praise

Joe Allen has played down the praise heaped on him by some of his peers

The Swansea City midfielder believes that although the praise his nice he has not had much to shout about this season after injuries have hampered his apperances in the team.

However, the success of his team mates - who currently sit in a play off spot - has softened that blow for the Swansea born youngster.

He told the Western Mail  “I don’t think I’ve had much to shout about this season in all fairness.

“The praise just makes the season I have had even more frustrating. I have missed a lot of football and it’s been difficult to get a run in the team.

“Last season I didn’t get into the team until fairly late on but, by the end, I was playing week in, week out. This season has been much more disjointed and it has been difficult at times.

“The team’s success has made it easier because it’s great to see the boys doing so well. But I want to be involved and I want to help in anyway I can, particularly at this vital stage of the season.

“Praise is great to hear from anywhere and everywhere. But, when it is from people that have been there and done it and fellow professionals, it’s pretty special.

“It does put some pressure on me to do what they say. But it’s a good type of pressure and one I hope to thrive on to make sure I don’t disappoint anyone.”

Joe was reacting to praise given by Newcastle midfielder Kevin Nolan who named him as one of the top 5 players in the football league whilst his captain Garry Monk said “Joe has massive, massive potential

“His ability and vision for a young lad is impressive.

“He has improved a lot over the past couple of years. I know he has been disappointed with the injuries this season but, in terms of potential, he really can go all the way to the top.

“The more games he plays, the better he will be. He can really effect games now, he can create something out of nothing and we have missed him. He is a big player for us now and he realises that. To have him back will be a big boost for us in this run-in.”
