Is McDermott blaming the Ref for his own shortcomings? Friday, 27th Dec 2013 16:08 You know what some might say, managers' blame the referee to hide their own shortcomings but does this apply in Brian McDermott's case following his stinging attack on the officials following Thursday's draw at Blackpool. Despite the hosts losing four on the trot, Leeds taking the lead and Blackpool ending the game with ten men, the whites' dropped two points when Thomas Ince equalised on 64 minutes. However the turning point in McDermott's eyes came two minutes later when 'Pool defender Kirk Broadfoot felled Ross McCormack, a foul many thought warranted a red-card although Broadfoot was later shown red for hacking down Marius Zaluikas. McDermott said: “It’s a certain sending off and when the referee looks back at it he’ll realise that he’s made an error. It’s unfortunate for him and for us. “It’s a massive moment because if (Broadfoot) lets Ross go then Ross scores. He’s got the ball under better control than I thought he had and Broadfoot knows himself that he’s going to get sent off. For whatever reason, the referee made the wrong decision. “Apparently he said to someone that he didn’t think Ross did have the ball under control. If that’s what he’s said to someone else then that’s what he’ll say to me.” However some Leeds ans took to message boards and twitter, bemoaning McDermott's substitutions or in this instance lack of them. One angry poster cited the pace of Dominic Poleon as being an unused weapon to finish the Tamgerines off whilst another asked what has happened to El Hadji Diouf and even Aidy White! Although I've often thought McDermott does use subs sparingly and only when necessary, I cannot fault him and feel he is doing a great job given the resources at his disposal. Taking to Twitter et al to vent your frustration on microscopic detail does no one any favours. The last two results have been slightly disappointing, but we are still sixth going into the last ame of 2013, a position I'm sure most of us would have taken at the start of the season. I'm sure Brian will have the team all nicely revved up for Sunday's visit to the City Ground, Nottingham, particularly given their excellent result against QPR yesterday! Meanwhile Aidy White looks set to return to Leeds early, following an ankle injury sustained during Sheffield United's clash with Oldham yesterday. White was due to stay at Bramall Lane until the New Year, however Blades boss Nigel Clough hinted he may try and bring White back should he respond well to treatment during the transfer-window which opens in just five days time!
