A Rough Guide To Doncaster Rovers
Tuesday, 6th Jan 2026 10:52

Doncaster Rovers Eco- Power Stadium was opened in September 2007 and this will be our 3rd visit, the previous 2 being in 2008 & 2011, so for those who have never been before, here is all the information you need about as the locals call it "Donny"

The Stadium

Opened in 2007 as the Keepmoat Stadium, In simple terms it is your off the peg football stadium in a small medium size.

Think St Mary's cut it in half and you have just about got the Keepmoat although the locals are fiercely proud of it after moving from the decrepit Belle Vue, which had not only been slowly rotting for years but had seen a one time Rovers Chairman trying to burn down the main stand for the insurance money.

In our last visit in December 2011 we lost 1-0 to a goal scored by Billy Sharp, who then joined Saints just over a month later, in March 2012, Sharp scored twice at St Mary's in a 2-0 win over his former club, meaning he had scored all the goals in both games.

Ironically his goal up at Doncaster cost us a point, which if gained would have seen us Champions that season rather than runner up, although conversely if he hadn't scored against his former club, then we would have lost two points and potentially could have been overtaken by West Ham.

The Away End

The away end is the North Stand which holds 3,344 and has a pretty good view as although the seating deck isn't that high it is quite steep and there are no pillars or other obstructions.

The stewarding approach is generally good. The stand’s low roof is good acoustically allowing away fans to make a lot of noise in support of their side.

Being a fairly new stadium the concourses are roomy, featuring several televisions to keep supporters entertained by showing Sky Sports before the match.

You have the usual football ground fare in the ground

Getting there

By Car

After heading north by the usual routes and hitting the M1 proceed on this motorway till you reach the turnoff for the M18 at Junction 32, from there head Eastbound signposted amongst other things Hull and stay on here till Junction 3, from this junction head on the A6182 the Stadium is well signposted approximately 1 1/2 miles from the motorway.

Parking

There are around 1,000 spaces at the ground at a cost of £5, there is also an away car park for Coaches and Mini Buses, however it does take some time to get out after, there are spaces avaiable for around £4 on the nearby industrial estate are added (look out for parking restrictions, spaces are on pay on the day private car parks of firms on the estates)

By Train

Doncaster station is just under two miles away so a bit of a trek, the bus interchange opposite the station has the number 73 leaving directly to the ground at 10 and 40 minutes past each hour with the journey time approximately 10 minutes, while buses on service 72 will depart at 22 and 52 minutes past each hour.

Otherwise the only option is the 30 minute walk or a taxi.

Drinking Etc

Being a ground on the outskirts of the town on a new leisure park, there isnt much in the way of traditional pubs near the stadium, however the Lakeside is a Beefeater establishment on the lakeside retail park and there is also a bar attached to the bowling alley next to the Vue cinema, both are approximately 10 minutes walk from the ground.

There is a bar at the ground which apparently lets in visiting supporters, however this can get very busy so if you want to use this the advice is to get there early as after 2pm it may be full. It doesnt do food though so make sure you have had something before going in. Alcohol is available inside the ground.

So The Railway Pub and The Leopard are ideal for away fans for those arriving by train and are located about 30 minutes from the stadium, and The Lakeside is handy for those driving.

The Railway Pub – West Street, DN1 3AA
The Leopard – 2 West Street, DN1 3AA

Quirky Facts

Yumgblud can’t spell his name properly and wouldn’t know the One Direction dude if he stood next to me singing, so they are a bit bare with just the dodgy BBC providing fame for the city for me..
Never been but I’m gonna go and expect 3 central defenders, a lack of options upfield for them on the ball and turgid sideways football once again. Can’t wait to meet Alice Tinker, it may be the only fun part of the day..

Thanks for an interesting history of the Doncaster club ( Nick) ...although the worrying thing maybe the recent report that the manager of Bolton made an official complaint to the FA (?) after a league match there..about the condition of the pitch, which he said was "unacceptable". Something that TE ought to take into account when selecting a squad.

Admittedly, the standard of pitches in many lower clubs leaves something to be desired, but if we end up playing on something resembling a ploughed field, in mid-winter, then who knows what tactics we need to employ. We are likely to see one of two Academy lads getting game time (if for no other reason) to see if they can cut it against a tough lower league side. Hopefully some of our better players can avoid getting "clogged" when coming up against tough defenders in a side already down in their drop zone.
