Saints Mockumentary Shows A Club Happy Within Itself.
Friday, 15th May 2015 10:50

The Mockumentary produced by Saints recently proved that finally Southampton Football Club is a happy and vibrant place again.

The Player Integrated Stripes System video recently unveiled by Saints on their official website was groundbreaking for several reasons, firstly because it would be hard to find another Premier club who would have the innovation to produce such a spoof video poking gentle fun at itself, but secondly because it shows how far the club have come behind the scenes in the past year, it shows a club comfortable within itself.

When Markus Liebherr arrived at the club a new era dawned, on the field the club made great strides, but off it and especially after Markus's sad death it was club in operational chaos in many respects.

Mos fans only cared about the results on the pitch, but to sustain those results the foundations need to be there and although many fine words were said about building those foundations, the reality was that progress was slower than it should have been.

This was due to key roles seeing a big turnover of staff as Marketing Directors etc responsible for generating income and building the club brand came and went at an alarming rate, not only that though but ordinary members of staff found themselves in an oppressive atmosphere and scared for their jobs.

This of course all came to a head and was the tip of the iceberg in a situation that lead Katharina Liebherr to have to wrest control back of the club she owned.

Since then Kathrina and her board have worked hard to build bridges and put in place not only the corporate governance missing for several years, but make the club a happy place to work again and more importantly a club that is genuinely progressing.

It has not been easy and nobody can say that mistakes havent been made, but overall we are in a stronger position than we were at the start of 2014 and that has to be good, but this video shows that once again we are a club that can not only have a human side but can laugh at itself too.

The video pokes fun at all aspects of the club and that shows that it is not afraid of its past history or indeed where it stands now, it is confident in what it is doing.

So many little things made the film a classic, whether it was the club cat and its bowl with Catziano Pelle written on it, the subtle cutlery displayed on the wall with do not touch on it a reference to one of our former Chairmans infamous alleged lost spoon incident or how the players joined in with cameo roles, it was all positive.

So Saints fans can see they now have a happy club, one that is not afraid of its position and going forward the future is bright.

Agreed, loved the video. I read the article on the official site first and didn't immediately realise it was a spoof. Particularly good to see MLT back in the fold.

Football has got so po-faced and I'm sure there will be one or two whinges but everyone I speak to loves it. The club's marketing has come up with some great stuff this season.

Yeah, I found it funny too. Full of some classic little in jokes. Liked it when he said Rodrigues was his favourite Columbian footballer and the phone in the pocket crack. Quality.
