Defoe - That Was A Good Point

Jermaine Defoe scored the goal that could have kick started Sunderland's season today but he was quick to praise the Swans and believes that the point was a good one especially on the back of their opening two results

Sunderland went into the game under some big pressure in front of their home fans and they responded with a performance that showed grit and determination but it is also worth remembering that they should also have been beaten.

They have their goalkeeper to thank as much as anyone on that pitch particularly for his save from Gomis' header that was one of the best saves you would wish to see and will probably never get the full credit that it needed to get.

Defoe struck at a time when Sunderland were under massive pressure from the Swans who had looked for all the money that they were going to grab a second goal to double their advantage given to them by Gomis' first half injury strike.

It was completely against the run of play and was sloppy from the Swans but all the same well finished from the veteran striker who also scored at the Liberty Stadium last season.

"It is a good result, they are a difficult team," Defoe said. "They pass the ball and move the ball well and made it difficult for us but it was important that we got a reaction today.

"The manager certainly got that — everyone worked hard, we pressed from the first whistle, managed to get the goal and we got the point so we will take that.

"It is not easy, every game in the Premier League is so hard, home or away and Swansea are a good side who have been playing well and they are really confident so I think it is a good point and hopefully we can kick on from here."
