The Premier League are eyeing up Saints' Vice Chairman according to reports this morning, Les Reed may be villified by some Saints fans, but his CV is admired in other quarters says redandwhitesupporter.

Saints face the prospect of off-field disruption as they battle against relegation, in the form of the club’s vice-chairman Les Reed reportedly in the running to take up a new position as technical director of the Premier League according to The Times.

In an exclusive report, The Times has learnt that Reed, features on a shortlist for the job drawn up on behalf of the Premier League that also includes Kevin Thelwell, the sporting director at Championship leaders Wolves.

Reed’s could be seen as a blow to some, as since joining the club in 2010 as head of football development, he has played an important role in the clubs success of recent years.

However the current vice chairman, has come under some stick from a section of the clubs supporters over the past 2 seasons due to the teams struggles on the pitch seemingly caused by back to back poor first team managerial appointments by the board.

So should Les opt to leave the club, (should he be offered the position) it will no be met with a mixed reaction, and with the club currently staring into the Premier League abyss any offer would come at an attractive time for Reed.

dirk_doone added 17:32 - Apr 6 Sanguin, I know because Mitchell took Cortese on a scouting trip to Spain where they were impressed by Pochettino and then later recruited him. Reed was nothing to do with it. Mitchell left just over 3 years ago. We signed a few players he and his black box had picked in the few months after he left but for the last 2 years we've been reliant on his replacement, Ross Wilson. Les Reed didn't find any of them. He appears in the PR photos when they sign and then sells the players later.

ItchenNorth added 09:07 - Apr 7 We yet again need to be careful what we wish for. If we go down, stability is key. Having people that know the club. Players will come and go and the club has no power to stop that happening. Reed is an easy scapegoat, but I'd be more concerned about who new owners would bring in as a replacement especially as we have no idea what they are about as owners. Better the devil you know in my opinion for the time being, even if we are in The Championship.

I want Gao to get a grip and sweep the old regime away completely, every last vestige of the stale FA 'old-boy' network of incompetence, complacency and self congratulatory humbug that came with Reed and his cronies and install some new faces with new ideas. He's had a while to look around and get to know people in football now and must realise how useless the leadership at his club is.

Consecutive dire managers , a 'dumbed down' team of 'eurosquaddies' under Puel and a flattering league position, allowed a naive board to neglect the squad last summer while they were preoccupied by money matters. The FIRST TEAM was crying out for re-inforcements. VVD should have gone THEN which could have funded a transformation. The MP era was an unmitigated disaster and was left far too long. A catalogue of neglect and awful decisions . Most supporters saw this coming, it's uncanny that the board did not?
