Saints In Advanced Talks To Go Dutch
Friday, 24th Apr 2020 11:36

According to the media in the Netherlands, Saints are in advanced talks whatever that means to sign a full back.

The loan signing of Kyle Walker Peters looked to be another Kevin Danso scenario almost right from the start of the right back arriving from Spurs. Walker Peters made his debut against Burnley and in fairness didn't look too bad, but then failed to make the starting line up in any of the following three games.

The whisper was that having seen Walker-Peters close up there was something about the player that Ralph Hasenhuttl didn't trust.

That seems to be the case also for Yan Valery who in those three aforementioned games was on the bench for the first two and Ralph preferred to use James Ward Prowse as a makeshift right back rather than a specialist.

So it seems that Kyle Walker Peters may have played his last game for Saints and that he will not get another chance to play before his loan expires and that Saints will not pursue him further.

But the media in Holland is saying that Saints have already identified who could fill the right back spot, he is FC Groningen’s Deyovaisio Zeefuik.

The 22 old started at Ajax before being loaned to Groningen and signing permanently in the summer of 2018 on a three year deal.

He broke into the side on a regular basis this season and has played every single game prior to the suspension of the Eridivisie.

According to Eurosport’s Manu Lonjon, Ralph Hasenhüttl and his scouts have turned their attention to Deyovaisio Zeefuik.

They say it’s a bit more than that, as the French journalist claims both Reims and Southampton are in ‘advanced contacts’ with the player regarding what would most likely be a summer transfer.

PSV Eindhoven are also said to be interested and Saints will face some competition for a player who will be out of contract in a year's time so will be available at a decent price.

Like most players schooled in the Ajax way, Zeefuik can play in other positions and although he had played his games at right back he can play in the centre of defence as well.

He fits Ralph's blueprint and that is perhaps why he is being linked with Saints, what seems to be clear though is that we are in the market for a right back and that Yan Valery with rumours that his absence from the first team this season has been nothing to do with injury or virus is not seen by Ralph as the option for the future, for the moment at least

Hi all,
Living away from the area, and not having ever been on any social media at all, can anybody enlighten me as to what the rumours about Valery are in terms of his absence if not through injury or illness?

To Newbury Saint..I think the quick answer is that Valery (apparantly) had glandular fever last November and it took a long time for him to recover and begin to train and get properly "match-fit ". It's a bit more challenging than a dose of flu.

Prowsie DAJFU at RB and was certainly no worse than anyone else PLUS he was able to get into his midfield role whenever possible. adly Valery has to take responsibility for us losing the Newcastle game with the "proverbial full back's disaster move" ..a short back pass to the keeper which went wrong andwill do little to reinstate his role as regular no.2.

As for the article above...about the Dutchman ...Zeefuik...he is likely to be one of many players Saints "have looked at " which means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Apparantly ...Djenepo said (in interview) that Saints had watched him .. 40 times ...before deciding to sign him. There will have been others who fell by the wayside without a mention.
We have Danso and KWP on loan but neither has made a huge impact ..so as the old football saying goes ..we are " back to square one". Clearly Spurs want to sell KWP but Levy will ask far more than Saints want to pay, and so may return to North London.

IMHO ..the issue of CB is far more important as both Stephens and Bednarek have done as well as might be expected, but we have no credible cover for either of them.

Newbury Saint : there was a rumour going around on twitter last week(?) a woman had "broken her gag order" and posted that Valery was the father of her child and upon finding out had spiked her drink with an abortion pill and killed her baby, she alleged it had happened some time mid-late 2019 and had documents proving that Valery was the father (or 99.98% proven). Obviously innocent until proven guilty but I suppose it would explain the disappearance, radio silence and sudden lengthily illness

Cheers underweststand & KOTS.

I was aware of the glandular fever thing because that was the official club line but I kept hearing about there being rumours as to why he was out for so long which weren’t to do with glandular fever but, as you quite rightly point out KOTS, innocent until proven guilty if there is anything in that rumour.
