New technical director at Swansea appointed from June. And it’s Gareth Bale ! Friday, 1st Apr 2022 08:00 by Swans Indie Staff Swansea City confirmed late last night that they have appointed Welsh ‘legend’ Gareth Bale as their new technical director of football for next season. After three weeks of negotiations involving the Real Madrid player the swans have managed to get Bale on a three year contract. The hope is that he will take over the reigns when a change of leadership is needed at Swansea. However, he has admitted it’s about being at the top Welsh club, nothing more for now. The announcement of this news is almost as big as when John Toshack snubbed Cardiff City to join the swans in 1978. The prime reason for Bale agreeing to the deal wasn’t about money, the main bargaining point was the location of his new house in Swansea. After serious discussions council planners have agreed to planning permission for a six bedroom house on the Mumbles, the location is yet to be confirmed. Gareth’s wife Emma who still works as a part time hairdresser in Canton is delighted. “You have to remember that Gareth signed for Southampton not Cardiff, and he did that for a reason” Gareth stated late yesterday evening “ To be honest I just want to give something back to Welsh football, for me the money doesn’t matter, it’s about being at a club that plays football in the right way, and Swansea have always been that club” Swans sporting director Mark Allen is delighted. Talking about the appointment he was quick to point out that Bale is very much in to the ‘process’ that Swansea City embarked on last August. “ We didn’t go after Gareth, actually he came to us, I took a call from his agent about another matter and it just went from there. I’m not surprised he wants to continue the Swansea journey, he is a proud Welshman and apparently his dad was a big swans follower” We expect a further announcement from Swansea City later today but in the meantime swans fans can be assured that they have secured one of the most valuable assets in Welsh football, and indeed someone who is completely focussed on taking the swans to the ‘ next level’ Bale will also be registered as a swans player, which gives them the opportunity to deal with the expected avalanche of shirt orders which will almost certainly happen. His squad number will be decided once the club decide the future of Yan Dhnada and Jay Fulton. More on this later today. ![]() UPDATED 5pm : APRIL FOOLS DAY OF COURSE !
