Wembley is getting closer, so it's time to start our build up to the game. We begin as always with our preview of the match referee - Stuart Atwell.

The good news is that we won’t be seeing the likes of Richard Beeby in the middle at Wembley on Monday.

However, match referee Stuart Attwell was involved at Spotland last weekend as he was the fourth official at the Darlington game.

The 25-year old is rated as the most promising prospect currently on the league list and has apparently had an interview for the Select Group of officials ahead of next season.

Considering he is in his first season at this level, this is a phenomenal achievement, although no surprise as he has already received several Championship appointments and even refereed matches in the third and fourth rounds of the FA Cup.

Dale saw Mr Attwell at the end of March when he oversaw our 2-0 win at Brentford. His performance that day attracted no comments anywhere in the media, so we can assume it was fairly low key and perfectly acceptable!

Altogether this season Stuart has refereed 31 games, in which he’s shown 48 yellow cards and 9 red. Two of those reds came in the fiery FA Cup tie between Swansea and Havant & Waterlooville in January.
