Wales' largest hospital could be replaced in the next 10 years as part of a shake-up of health services. Cardiff's 1,000-bed University Hospital of Wales, built in 1971, is "no longer fit for purpose", the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board says.
So it’s “not fit for purpose”, but still better than Morriston for the South Wales MTC?

Having spent nearly a month as an in patient in 'Wales' Largest Hospital' I can confirm it is already not fit for purpose.
The staff are wonderful but it is a drab horrible place and hideously overcrowded as they have tried to jam everything in there on the cheap. Building Works continue there as they try to catch up.
Rather than bussing us up there they should be doing it in reverse as Morriston, Singleton and NPT Hospital offer a considerably better experience.
They need to be careful as well. Restructuring could be a UK wide thing and, with the large duplication in Bristol, the whole shooting match could move to the other side of the Severn.
Ah the MTC...remember that? Everyone West of Swansea has no 'Golden Hour' which they would have had had it been sited in Morriston. Now Cardiff have two to serve them and the silence from Messers James and Hedges, and all AMs westward, continues. |  |

Ha ha it’s just like the assembly building all over again. Swansea to Ron - “have the Guildhall”. Ron “the case is too compelling not to waste another ten million on a superfluous building in Cardiff and for any back ganders that might entail”.
