Tough read for the Boris fans here. Apologies it’s rather long so try your best

I read an article that people like comparing numbers but have failed to compare in public the EU(+GB) v the USA..

The USA are miles better off than the EU in totally and per million...

But that never gets mentioned either

Here is a chart plotting population density against Covid.

https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/covid-19-death-rate-vs-population-density

As you can see there is a straight line linear relationship between the two...oh, actually there's not...actually there's just a random projection of dots...

Back to the drawing board TCM...

For Europe, that plot shows a very clear trend.

They dont provide a useful overview as it's biased it's just done to bash the government,

Why doesn't is say anything about the size and density of our population or our deaths per million is far lower than Italy and Spain?

Maybe one day the penny will drop with you and the others.

In terms of deaths/million we are 6th highest in the world and two of those above us, San Marino and Andorra don't count as too small.

Belgium is the worst - and they too are acknowledged as having had a terrible Covid.

The other two above us are yes, Italy and Spain but both were hit very early so did not have the same opportunity to prepare, as we did. Likewise, because they are ahead of us, their numbers are going to be higher.

For me, it's clear that we have not done particularly well so far (and many countries have done an awful lot better), so anyone can and should ask whatever questions they want about this. If this isn't a public interest story then nothing is.

But you keep your head in the sand. It's another approach, certainly.

You're semi blinkered pal, you can only see one side of the discussion.

You seem to be a reasonably intelligent human being (apart from your need to wind complete strangers up on the Internet) so I find it difficult to understand how you can read that article (if you actually did) and still spout the apologist guff that you have been coming out with from the start. This is not fake news. This is the growing story of a government’sincompetence that has meant that we have lost many more lives than we probably should have done if they had adopted the right strategy. I suggest that you go back and read the article properly. If you still can’t see what most sane people can see, then I suggest that you apply for a job working for Dominic Cummings.

What the graph shows is that there is no direct correlation between pop density and Covid cases. If there were then you would see correlations in all regions of the world, which you don't. (Look at Asia in isolation for example).

Also compare UK with Netherlands. (Same death rate, they have a higher density).

Or UK with Germany. (Similar density, we have a higher death rate).

Obviously, population density is going to be a factor - there's a clue in the fact that social distancing is helpful.

But it is clearly not the only factor and (to me at least) it is clear that the UK cannot be said to be doing particularly well so far. Why that is remains to be seen but cutting off debate about it and pretending it isn't true is not going to help anyone.

So it is a factor but isn't included in the article. Why is that? Surely it should be for balance as it shows that within Europe (a group of comparable countries with generally similar climates, cultures and economies) the UK is at a disadvantage.

Sounds like cutting off debate about it and pretending it isn't true.

Take it up with The Guardian. When they refuse to run a piece on the link between population density and Covid, you can accuse them of cutting off debate.

TCM is trying to cut off debate. 'It's all about population density pal. Stop moaning.'

You're not stupid Moog. You know that the importance or otherwise of population density doesn't make the rest of the information in the article unimportant or untrue.

Again not what i said.

I simply said as we have a higher and more dense population than most of Europe then it should be a surprise that a disease which spread by human interaction is more prolific here. You and your friends at the guardian just keep screaming ITS ALL THE TORIES fault, when actually looking at similar sized countries with similar density we haven't done nearly as badly as people like to pretend.

I’m glad that you finally admit to being a Tory.

Now all you have to do is give up the deflection. The reason this government are getting more grief than some others is because they have made more mistakes. Read The Guardian article again. Johnson clearly did not take this seriously quickly enough given the evidence in front of him at the time.

When reading statistics - one needs to take into consideration the high density of chavs & thick, ignorant people the UK has when compared to other European countries. I would imagine that the citizens of most Euro countries are adhering to the lock-down rules quite well and obeying the social distancing rules that have been implemented.

Alas, here in the UK, we have an abundance of thick morons who I see every time I have to go to the supermarket who really couldn't give a shít about keeping 2-metres apart & people living near me socialising with a beer in each other's gardens or holding BBQ's etc etc.

These people have the IQ of a flip-flop and (partly) explain why the death toll is still too high every day. Considering we've been in lock-down for over a month now - where are all these cases still coming from? It can only be the English mentality.

By the way, I just read an article in the Telegraph from a few weeks back suggesting that Johnson should sack Hancock and replace him with someone more capable. The Telegraph. Not The Guardian. Not The Independent. The Telegraph.

It was a tongue in cheek comment but seems to have gone over your head.

So here is another reason you apologists need a daily dose of reality -

“Inquests into Coronavirus deaths among NHS workers should avoid examining systemic failures in provision of PPE coroners have been told”.

All the way through this so far the government have been covering their ar5es. It may not bother you, but it bothers people who expect to be treated like adults.

There is a global shortage of PPE, but you chose to ignore that, even in Germany who have done well they are protesting as reported in your favourite source of news, surprisingly your didnt share this one. Is that the fault of Matt Hancock too?

The population density point has been dealt with.

We are 4th in the worldwide worst list. It's not great. It's worth considering why.

It really isn't difficult.

You and your mates are the only hysterics on the subject. Others are capable of having a measured and balanced discussion about stuff.
