Pardew 09:18 - May 10 with 865 viewsJaySaint

So, what actually happened that led to his swift departure?
Rumours rife at the time (fonte?) but anyone actually know?

yes very strange.

I believe Markus/Cortese had a bit of a hump that we missed out on the playoffs in season 1 but something else must have happened as we would have gone up with Pardew, regardless..

Love to know

Was he not found to be touting himself around for other managerial roles?

I see that Dutch mob got rid of him.

In simple terms Pardew was given the summer transfer budget in January 2010 in order to make a push for the play offs, when that failed Cortese was livid and their relationship detiorated.

But Markus liked Pardew and therefore Cortese could do nothing, in the summer of 2010 we spent very little money as Markus was not willing to put more money in over and above the amount agreed in the strategy and the budget.

When Markus died in August 2010 this left Pardew on a sticky wicket and he knew his time was coming to an end.

Cortese imposed Guly on him and the rumour was that he had told that Guly played at Bristol Rovers or else, Pardew quite rightly was not going to bow down and named him as a sub.

We won 4-0 at Bristol Rovers and Pardew brought on Guly in the final minutes, 3-0 up after an hour he could have been given a run out long before that but Pardew was making a point.

He was sacked soon after, a poor start to the season being blamed, but at the time we were only 3 points off the play off spots and had a game in hand, it wasnt the start we had expected but it wasn't disastrous.

The next four league games saw three straight defeats and then a draw at home to Colchester, perhaps showing that the issue was not Pardew or rumours of an affair with a players wife.

I seem to remember Cortese wanting to prioritise the push for promotion and not being happy about Pardew being keen on a cup run. When we won that final Cortese had a face like a smacked ar5e despite the rest of us being delirious (and the beaming smile of Marcus’s face). There were all kinds of rumours being spread about Pardew and other player’s wives but I have always believed that Cortese wanted him gone as he didn’t do as he was told.

Pardew was whoring himself to Newcastle execs, associates of Ashley, when he was managing us.

To be fair, he probably knew he was on borrowed time with NicNac anyway.
