The Death of Spin? 12:14 - May 28 with 755 viewsSadoldgit

Recently we have seen the disaster that was Prince Andrew’s attempt to reframe himself in the wake of the Epstein firestorm. His big PR event was car crash TV and backfired on him big time, so much so that his Mum effectively fired him. Since then we have seen an attempt by Dominic Cummings to explain away his breaking of the rules, a further attempt by Johnson to whitewash the situation and move on and daily “briefings” from various cabinet lightweights and occasionally the PM , if he can be arsed, which are supposed to reassure us that all is well and the government are in complete control of the situation. Thing is, none of this sh*t seems to work anymore. People are seeing through the guff and are calling it for what it is, BS. Spin is unravelling so fast the memes are springing up almost as the broadcasts finish. Trump, Johnson, Cummings, Prince Andrew have all played the PR game and have lost badly. Not much good has come out of the pandemic so far (apart exposing the weakness of the PM and his total reliance on an unelected ego maniac) but if it sees the end of the spin doctor and a return to treating the general public as adults who to paraphrase Jack Nicholson, can handle the truth, we can chalk that up as a plus.

When you have trouble with the content you always find a way of dealing with it by not dealing with it. Here’s a thought, if you have nothing to add, why post?

Just read an interesting article in The Spectator (of all places) attacking Cummings. It adds a quote from George Orwell which is very apt. “Political language...is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable and give an appearance of solidarity to pure wind”.

No Ron, in this instance, Cummings.

I remember well the term spin doctor used back in the 90’s in association with the Blair administration but apparently the first PM to have a formal adviser was Harold Wilson (although it wasn’t widely know until he was out of office).

What is worrying now is that Cummings seems to be more than just an adviser, he seems to be running the show!
