Golden Boot 21:07 - Jul 26 with 684 viewsBoris_

Why do penalties count with the Golden Boot? If they didn't then it would have been Ings award on 21 outfield goals to Vardy's 19.

You still have to score them. How many have we missed? I can think of Arsenal, Everton and Bournemouth misses.

If you miss your penalties you're unlikely to earn or deserve a golden boot.

The golden boot goes to the highest goalscorer. If you score from the penalty spot it is the same as scoring from free play. It really isn’t rocket science.

Come on Soppy, you big cry baby. Let's have a proper debate about football.

Is a penalty the same as scoring from open play in terms of showing who is the best goalscorer? JWP has taken our penalties for all bar 2 of them this season. If Ings had been the penalty taker, it's fair to say he would have won the Golden Boot.

Of course it is, just ask MLT. That is why your name goes down as a goalscorer if you score and it doesn’t if you don’t. Should the names of the scorers of direct free kicks be struck off too? It is part and parcel of the game. Given we missed 2 on the trot it shows that it isn’t a given that the penalty taker will score. The golden boot goes to the person who puts the ball into the net the most and that is the way it should be.

The real question is why doesn't Ings take the pens?
