Gets an England call up.

Jeez, I know he's a decent specialist but gets his call up the very bloody first England squad after Leeds are promoted.

Does that promotion give him super powers, or is he just the accomplished clogger he was in the Chumpionship?

Southgate, pull your head out of your arse and look beyond what Sky delivers to you on a plate!

This is why Eze is guaranteed a full call up as soon as we've negotiated the very, very, absolute best deal for him from a Premiership club.

Mystical powers are indeed granted to a player once they have that Gravy Train badge on their sleeve.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Same way dykes got his call up once signed by us. The big transfer / promotion is a seal of approval and means international manager less likely to be slaughtered for the pick.

Southgate's been watching Phillips keenly for some time now. No evidence of that being the case for Eze, plus there's a whole bunch of other players in the same queue.

The same player who loses his head and goes flying in with two footed tackles when it goes against him ?
Dead handy that in tournament football

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

The 3 most baffling things out of that squad are
Dier
Mings
And no left back What so ever , why not the lad at arsenal saka ?

"Southgate, pull your head out of your arse and look beyond what Sky delivers to you on a plate!"

Isn't that just what he has done? I.e. looked to a Championship player, which is all KP has ever been, rather than only picking players who've played in the PL.

Besides which, he's unlikely to start, so it's a good chance to see what he's like to have around the squad etc, so that GS will have a better idea of his personality should he continue to progress at the higher level with Leeds.

The thing Southgate has done all the way through generally (always some specific examples to the contrary) is pick players that fit his system first of all, and basically keep the same core squad together as much as he can to make it more like a club set up which means keeping players in as they dip in and out of form, rather than just naming a squad of the 24 most in form players in the country atm. Pickford's a good example. He's also quite hot on conduct and off field behaviour, hence the Sterling thing last season, and he made a pointed remark in an interview after Jack Grealish's late night lockdown rave and car crash that the current England set up "watches everything and doesn't miss much". Quite how that doesn't apply to Harry Maguire I don't know but I'm just tossing out vague theories here.

So far, TBF to him, it's worked far better than anything the four blokes before him came up with.

He's a tackler who can pass a ball.

At the moment we only have Rice who can do that role.

He plays a midfield 3 with one tackler/passer and two shuttlers.

Rice sits deep with Henderson and one other either side. One assumes that last spot is Foden's to lose

He's watched Eze play for England at the lower levels and everyone knows what Eze can do. It's as others said. Big transfer fee to a bigger club, then he will get picked.

Dier is Dier and its obvious seeing as he's been put in the Defenders bracket.

I could get upset about Rkce playing for England at all - deep breaths, gotta let it go

He's watched games Eze's played in. Not the same as attending Leeds games on a regular basis specifically verging on a call up.

Eze's somewhere on the radar but there's creative players doing it at a higher level who aren't getting automatic call ups.

It's more the all round hassling that sets Phillips apart from Rice and Winks.

Dier shouldn't be in the squad, or even in the Spurs team.

Agree no left back or even psuedo left wing back is silly. Saka, McNeil, solidarity gesture to Sessegnon, anyone. Rico Henry or Jay Dasilva even.

Maguire found guilty, which makes his selection even more unfathomable. Rare misstep from the man in the waistcoat.

I've just read a report on the trial. All the alleged quotes sound utterly ridiculous.

“Please, let me go. I am very rich. I can pay. I am the leader of Manchester United.”

Defence said Maguire was deliberately “kicked” and shoved by police officers who also attempted to demean him saying “your career is over”.

The brawl had been set off when Maguire learned his sister had been attacked by two men. Describing the pair as Albanians he said they had deliberately “injected” the 20-year-old with a substance that had caused her to instantly faint.

I have nothing for or against Maguire, nor do I have any evidence for or against the charges. And I know there are language difficulties. All the same ...

I am still Steve but no longer in Dagenham.

Well it feels like Maguire has been stitched up. Case notes not given to his defence until this morning. Case then immediate. Felt like he was set up to be found guilty.

Kalvin Phillips is a better player than we saw.

I like Southgate but leaving out Grealish is ridiculous. Guy is a class player and would make England better and he's a leader. Has matured massively both as a person and a player.

Never knowingly right.

Under Greece’s penal code misdemeanour crimes can be converted, in the event of conviction, into financial penalties with defendants being allowed to pay off sentences as part of government efforts to ease overcrowding in prisons.

Sounds to me like Maguire has been royally stitched up, not even given a chance to form a defence.

Wonder if they will be as quick to give justice to his sister

As for England I think Grealish is playing in a position where England have a lot of other options which is why he is not getting in

Totally agree on the whole Maguire thing. Really feels like he and his sister have been royally done.

On Grealish my argument would be that he is actually better than the players he is contending with and he can operate as a proper number 10, which our forwards could really feed off. I know he divides people but the lad is a huge talent.

Never knowingly right.

Southgate watches U21s carefully. Part of his success. So he’ll know all about Eze. But yes, a few ahead of him in that queue.

Bare bones.
