Local derbies 23:31 - Oct 18 with 4108 viewsSadoldgit

Just watched MOTD. During the Crystal Palace v Brighton match the commentator said several times that it was a local derby. The clubs are about 50 miles apart. There is clearly a big rivalry between the two clubs but how on Earth is it a local Derby when one club is in south London and the other is on the South Coast?

Talking of head to heads, I notice that you club has a losing record against practically every single half decent club from the North West. Special mention to Bolton, and also Wigan and Rochdale where you have actually managed to beat them once in your whole history. What's wrong with the North-West?

I can't believe I've done this, but it didn't actually take very long!! Using worldfootball.net site which has each club's results against every opposition recorded; of our respective records of wins and loses against the following North West Teams, Blackburn, Blackpool, Bolton, Bury, Burnley, Everton, Liverpool, Man City, Man U, Oldham, Preston, Rochdale and Wigan, the following FACTS were revealed.

Of the above teams Portsmyth only had more wins than loses against Wigan and Rochdale.!!
Whilst our record is nothing to shout home about, at least we have more wins than loses against Blackburn, Blackpool, Bury, Oldham, Preston and Wigan!!

If we are bad against North West Teams, where does that leave Portsmyth's efforts?

You'll find that nearly every time the Worzel tries to criticize Southampton for something, Portsmouth are in fact much worse at it.

He once tried to start a thread saying that Southampton was not very good at sport. A quick online search revealed the following facts, showing that Southampton totally own Little Pompey where sport is concerned:

Category Sportspeople from Portsmouth total 168 (and a lot of them are darts players)

Even allowing for the fact that Portsmouth is smaller than Southampton, that is a pretty pathetic showing. Thanks to Worzel 130 once again for drawing our attention to just how inferior Little Pompey is to the city of Southampton at sport. It's like a League One football team losing 0-4 at home to a Premier League team. No contest.

!30 stands for the number of times he's already embarrassed Little Pompey on here. I'm sure there will be many more.

The Worzel's attempted boast that Little Pompey's 'natural derby' was with Chelsea, a team they haven't won a single game against in ****** SIXTY YEARS* ***** will take some beating though. It's even less 'natural' than Crawley's derby with Chelsea and I'm sure Chelsea have never noticed that one either.

This alleged Chelsea link seems a complete nonsense.

I had a skate mate who claimed their ‘special relationship’ was with Tottenham (hence the move of Sicknote from the Skates to Spurs way back when) AND Rangers - witness the desire amongst some of the Hillbillies to form their own Orange Order lodge.

They really are, well, “special” aren’t they?

How could Soton be are rivals at the time? They didn't get to the top league till 40 years after Pompey.

Pompey had been playing Chelsea regularly since the mid twenties. Think about it you buffoons.

It seems that when Chelsea, Saints and Little Pompey were all in the second division together in the 1920s, Chelsea had no idea that Little Pompey were their 'natural rivals' nor did they when we played in the wartime league together in the 1940s or in the 1960s or at any other time for that matter. In fact, Saints have played Chelsea far more than Little Pompey have, as we have been in the top flight for far more years.

So, it is clear for all to see, as usual, that you are totally deluded:

"Rivalries

Chelsea have long-standing rivalries with North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.[99][100] A strong rivalry with Leeds United dates back to several heated and controversial matches in the 1960s and 1970s, particularly the 1970 FA Cup Final.[101] More recently a rivalry with Liverpool has grown following repeated clashes in cup competitions.[102][103] Chelsea's fellow West London sides Brentford, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers are generally not considered major rivals, as matches have only taken place intermittently due to the clubs often being in separate divisions.[104]

A 2004 survey by Planetfootball.com found that Chelsea fans consider their main rivalries to be with (in descending order): Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. In the same survey, fans of Arsenal, Fulham, Leeds United, QPR, Tottenham, and West Ham United named Chelsea as one of their three main rivals.[105] In a 2008 poll conducted by the Football Fans Census, Chelsea fans named Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United as their most disliked clubs. In the same survey, "Chelsea" was the top answer to the question "Which other English club do you dislike the most?"[106] A 2012 survey, conducted among 1200 supporters of the top four league divisions across the country, found that many clubs' main rivals had changed since 2003 and reported that Chelsea fans consider Tottenham to be their main rivals, above Arsenal and Manchester United. Additionally, fans of Arsenal, Brentford, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester United, QPR, Tottenham and West Ham identified Chelsea as one of their top three rivals.".

The team Saints have played the most games against in our history is Spurs and we have played them far more regularly than we have Little Pompey, who have been below us in the league for much of our history but that doesn't mean we boast that they are our 'natural rivals' as we are not as deluded as you are. The London team Little Pompey have played most is Charlton so according to your logic, they must be your natural rivals, as we are 2 leagues above you.

To be fair, the fact Little Pompey have played them far fewer times than Saints have, mitigates the fact that you haven't won a single game against Chelsea for SIXTY YEARS

Your fantasy rivalry with Chelsea really is THAT pathetic.

Next, you'll be claiming that Little Pompey have big rivalries with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The truth is, you can't hide: all of the results are there on Soccerbase for all to see
