Sky Sports Arena Swans TV LIVE on Talk Sport 2
Paddys punts - Lewis Hamilton favourite for sports wotsit of the thingy. Swans favourites 7/5 Draw 2/1 Stoke, I’ve forgotten.
Tonight’s referee is Andre Marriner who is in iron maiden, he wrote a song about himself and his great grandad was Samuel Coleridge. Andre sounds like he’s a bit tup. But he isn’t because he invented the red and yellow card, he shows a lot of people these cards in most games he is the referee. He likes to remind them he is the inventor of these colours. He averages in his whole career nearly three yellows a game ! It’s the truth and we feel that this stat is astonishing. He is though a premier league referee and is on all the select lists available, even ones yet to be introduced in to the world of selectiveness, which isn’t a word. Marriner ready for a rhyme as he fronts the crowd at HellFest.
He will be assisted by Scott Ledger and Simon Long, while Kevin Johnson will be the fourth official. Fourth official Kevin Johnson is not related to Kevin Carter.
Pre match build up, history, Port Vale, a look at Stoke and why they speak funny, what’s a potter ?, did it have a wheel ?, why do they speak funny, is Stoke really as bad a place to live as it looks, facts you didn’t know about Stoke and couldn’t care, why do they speak funny ? Do they eat a special diet in Stoke ?, Why waste so much money on naff players ?, and the most asked question, why do they speak funny ?
It’s all on its way in the hottest, most read Matchday Thread ever made, and that includes cheese.
Stoke City football facts 1 — Stoke City are the second oldest professional football club in the world, after Notts County, and were one of the founding members of the Football League. 2 — The club’s only major trophy to date was the League Cup, which they won in 1972 after beating Chelsea 2-1 in the final. They also lifted the Football League Trophy in 1992 and 2000. 3 — Stoke City’s highest league finish in the top division is fourth. The Potters finished in this position in both the 1935/36 and 1946/47 seasons. 4 — Prior to their promotion in 2008, Stoke City had not participated in the top flight of English football for 23 years. 5 — The club were originally formed under the name Stoke Ramblers in 1863, but 15 years later they merged with Stoke Victoria Cricket Club and became Stoke Football Club. In 1925, when Stoke-on-Trent was granted “city status” their name changed again, this time to Stoke City Football Club.
More interesting facts about Stoke City fans is they only have one song, its called 'Go on Stoke' and it sounds like they struggle with that quite a lot as they have to repeat it continuously until they remember it. Stoke is in a place called Port Vale where music millionaire and Lee Hendry lookalike, Robbie Williams, lives in a small bedsit. Prior to his suicide when he killed himself in 2014, in America, Robbie was in loads of films. He is best remembered for being an old woman. Stoke claims to be the world centre of ceramics, a ceramic is a kiln fired thing which is made in to a shape then smashed by Greek people. The funniest joke ever told in the history of jokes is I made a ceramic sculpture of Mohammed Ali but it exploded in the kiln. It was gaseous clay.
It is normal at this point that we review the referee and officials, but strangely enough none have been announce a little more than 24 hours before kick off. Maybe after Saturdays game when Bonny Langford was the ref they have decided that no officials will be required on Tuesday ? This makes a mockery of referees stating they pre plan for days before a game. It isn't very good.
Record, Swans v Stoke. Games won: 23 Games drawn: 21 Games lost: 30
First game was in 1925 at the vetch field on Christmas day. The sides drew 1-1, the very next day when they met again in 'Go on Stoke' and drew again by the same score. The next month however, in the FA Cup, Swansea put 6 goals in the Potters wheel, they replied with 3.
Swans Latest Steve Cooper is weighing up changes to his Swansea City side as the relentless fixture schedule continues with Tuesday’s meeting with Stoke City.
The clash with the Potters is the fourth game in a sequence that sees the Swans play seven games in just 22 games.
Head coach Cooper’s selection has been consistent over the opening weeks of the season but - given the sheer weight of games - he acknowledges there will be a need to rotate and give different players a chance to impress in the matches ahead.
"It will be sooner rather than later,” said Cooper when asked if he would make changes against the Potter.
"It didn't really come too much into the thinking for the Bristol City game because there was an extra day of rest.
"But going into a Saturday-Tuesday, I certainly think that you really need to monitor the physical and mental status of the players.
"We've got players who are not on the pitch at the moment who are ready to go, and we need to utilise that."
Stoke City Latest Stoke City are hoping midfielders Jordan Thompson and Sam Clucas will be available for the Championship clash at Swansea City on Tuesday.
Expect changes tonight..
Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper hands a debut to Ryan Manning as one of three changes for tonight’s meeting with Stoke City.
Manning joined the Swans from QPR on deadline day, and he slots in at left wing-back in place of Jake Bidwell.
Kyle Naughton and Yan Dhanda are also handed starting roles, taking the places of Ben Cabango and Korey Smith respectively.
Freddie Woodman starts in goal, with Naughton joining Marc Guehi and Ryan Bennett in a three-man defence.
Manning and Connor Roberts are the two wing-backs, with skipper Matt Grimes and Jay Fulton paired together in midfield.
Dhanda — making his first Championship start of the season — will take up an attacking midfield role, with Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe operating ahead of him.
Swansea City: Freddie Woodman; Kyle Naughton, Ryan Bennett, Marc Guehi; Connor Roberts, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Ryan Manning; Yan Dhanda; Andre Ayew, Jamal Lowe.
Substitutes: Steven Benda, Ben Cabango, Jake Bidwell, Korey Smith, Kasey Palmer, Liam Cullen, Viktor Gyokeres.
Stoke City: Adam Davies, Morgan Fox, Sam Vokes, James McClean, James Chester, John Obi Mikel (captain), Tommy Smith, Jacob Brown, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Josh Tymon, Harry Souttar.

Very good win. How did Gunn stay on? But, once again we go a goal up and the performance drops. My pick of the crop Jay Fulton.
He played well but Guehi is the best centre half in this league by a country mile. Even got a cross in. Made it look easy . Lowe has a very good game , as did Ayew and Palmer looks like he really wants to play for us. Tremendous commitment and bravery for his goal. Great performance all round.
Each time I go to Bedd - au........................

Excellent 3 points, but was I sweating until that nice Mr Palmer didn't sh*t out when taking that goal. Lot's of good performances tonight, very encouraging indeed.

Btw I'm waiting for my plaudit from the ex manure striker.
Well done fella, see, it's far better having some skin in the game, setting your stall out instead of pishing in from the outside, as per. And isn't it far more sensible to watch the game so you can comment thereafter.

He did far more than sh*t out, which most #10s wouldn't. Dhanda for example.
We have a canny blend of #10s, fair play to Scott and Coops

You say that as if I'm having a go at Palmer, the exact opposite.
Not at all - far from it, apols.
Palmer looks like he belongs, can see him being a strong #10 and more.
Sounds like he's settled well down Pennard too, who wouldn't hey

Decent half.
I never understand some of the stick Fulton gets. He's not a great player, but the way some people carry on about him you'd swear he was absolute shite. Usually does a good job when called upon, either to start or off the bench.
"Not a great player" ? wtf ?
For the discerning eye, he's a highly talented player. A player's player of the year material. Not only does he do the unsung stuff with aplomb, he offers a massive go-forward with the way in which he links with Ayew on the 2nd phase ball.

One of those who does the unnoticed work. Reminds me of Cusack.

Can you imagine if we had a proper striker.
Good point for discussion
imho Ayew is our striker. We're blessed with highly talented midfielders across the park, some of which are highly adept at driving forward and scoring. Where have we heard that before ? Barcelona ?
Even Hendrie on SKy had him down as the MOM, "striker"

Matchday Thread : Swansea City v Stoke City ; Why, Why, Why Oh Palmer ! on 23:21 - Oct 27 with 1535 views
My turn! Much better everywhere. Manning looks a great signing, Palmer worked hard and was brave, Dhanda had a good go and was unlucky not to score, Guehi, strong, never gave up and got forward too, even the substitutions looked good.
Coops problem now is, we'll probably expect this every week!
PS, Fulton, brilliant goal, important performance against an always physical Stoke.
PPS, our transfer dealings look much better after that eh?
What Steve now needs to do is to build on this and ensure we don't sit back and give the opposition a chance. Stoke were shocking, let's be fair and that piece of filth Jimmy Rebel should have seen a red. Great to see Palmer dig him. We need this sort of player .He needs a run in the team.
Lowe has been hammered by some but he was good last night and wasn't hooked.
Two next away games will really show us where we are.

Agree on Guehi but he needs a bigger more physical CB along side him - like Rodon & from the early performances Bennett - might get away with it in the big league but in the Championship he needs that support particularly at set piece defending.
That said I wouldn’t swap him out & hope the Chavs don’t have a Jan recall option.

Stoke were shocking because we didnt allow them to get into th game until the second half but we still "controlled" things. I dont just get some of the postings here when we are good its not because of us but the opposition are crap!!!
We do have some tough games coming up....Saturday wil be a test as Blackburn have been scoring goals for fun but hopefully our resilliant defence will continue and our midfield will get a grip allowing thestrikers to get a goal or two. Then away to sides who are blowing hot and cold but that is the Champioship ...saw it last year how "form" seems tochange or not give a clue to results

Lowe, like Fulton would be one of the first names on the teamsheet for me.
Only player we have which can do what he does, makes the pitch bigger, perfect example was the ball by I think Grimes, overhit to Ayew in the channel but Lowe run in behind and his pace turned a bad ball into a attacking throw in.
I was shocked by how high Stoke kept their line yesterday, the ball over the top by Bennett to Lowe was beyond simple, my only criticism of Lowe is he isn't clinical enough, seems to take ages to get his shot off, but with a few goals I'm hoping his confidence will rocket.

Can't agree with you regarding Lowe, I'd rather see Gyökeres up there, I'm sure there are plenty of goals in him if he gets settled into the team.
But hey! after last night's performance it's a little unfair to criticise anyone, even Coopers substitutions, which I thought a little bizarre at the time, but after listening to his after match interview, they made perfect sense, so well done Mr Cooper as well as the players.

What have you seen from Gyokeres to think he will score goals for us? I haven't seen anything in him at all.

Spot on vetch, we made stoke look ordinary because we kept the ball well and if we had an out and out no 9 we could have been out of sight by half time.
