We need to get back to basics
Midfield are pushing on to high up the pitch, You never saw Romeo on the edge of the opposition penalty box early in the season.it seems it is just all out attack
Teams are just playing a long ball over midfield and with the defence also pushing on we get caught and outnumbered.
We are also playing players out of position. Bertrand and redmond used to work well down the wing. With all the changes Bertrand can’t get a understanding with the player in front of him.
Right side of midfield is changing every match even when players are fit.
We need to stick with Ings and Adams and hope they can recapture their form.
Why we ever let Vallery go out on lone is a real mystery he was at least a reasonable cover for KWP
Time to shut up shop if we haven’t got a right back when KWP is injured let’s play 5 at the back without the two full backs pushing on together, ok if one goes but one should be a bit more reserved.
We only need a couple of wins and draws to survive, once we get these then drop the players who regularly seem to give the fight up when things get tough

Agree 100%. Back to basics it should be!

Results can go against us, referees can conspire against us but my biggest frustration is with players who are happy to take an obscene amount of money, kiss the badge and then bottle it when the going gets tough. Some of our players should really have their contracts cancelled or at the least be made to donate their wages to Saints Foundation

Injuries don't help course, but I think it's time Fraser Forster was given a chance back in the side. McCarthy pulls of some great reflex saves, but his kicking and positioning are woeful at times.
Sometimes he almost gives the impression that he thinks he's a lot better than he actually is.

Good post.

Making sure we have some sort of right back solutions (which we didn't against Leeds) should be priority number 1.

You're right about Bertrand-Redmond too - that worked.

And back to basics worked against Chelsea too.

Valery isn’t pulling up any trees at Birmingham.

Against Leeds the defence was squeezing up too far which made it really easy for their quick players to get round the back.

While KWP is out we definitely need a back 3, wing backs and only one midfielder holding.

Minamino needs to play as a 10, Ings has to play and Adams is nowhere near good enough.

There are a few in our team who act like they are better than us

Against Chelsea, Bednarek hardly advanced at all and mostly kept close in, so basically we played with a back 3, reverting to 4 when Bertrand came back. You are right, it would be good if we could use a similar approach.

Seems to me we have a choice.

We either play with someone with the pace and ability to actually operate as a right back, and for me the only person in the squad who can definitely fulfil that role (apart from KWP) is JWP.

If we don't do that and play with a back three, then we need to have solid defensive cover in the right wing back position too. In too many games the right wing back has gone missing, leaving Bednarek/the team horribly exposed to opposition attacks down that side.
