Pitch invasions 11:19 - May 20 with 3450 viewsSaintsforeverj

The recent pitch invasions at Forest and Everton have brought up some discussions. The Billy Sharp incident was terrible and so was the goading of Vierra at Everton. But we are talking about 2 or 3 idiots out of thousands of fans who are just enjoying a passionate celebration. We did it when we got promoted and most of us were on the pitch.

The serious side, is that a player could get stabbed, seriously injured or worse. So what can be done? Not a chance of stopping 20 thousand fans running on, is there? You would have to line the pitch with thousands of security staff. Could the stewards do more? Vierra was literally walking alone across the pitch without any protection at all and had to defend himself from idiots. Should the ref indicate there is one minute left before the whistle so that coaching staff, managers and players can head as close to the tunnel as possible? You can't give life time bans to your whole fan base either. Difficult one, but you know something terrible will happen one day and then they will act when it's too late.

When there's a good chance of a pitch invasion ie for promotion/relegation games, pre- trained stewards gather near the tunnel before the final whistle. At the whistle they run onto the pitch forming a double skinned corridor to the centre circle, which all the players and ref run to and down the corridor. Just needs a bit of pre-planning and training.

make no mistake these pitch invasions will be looked at and prevented can you imagine the compensation payout if a 100 million pound player has his career finished if something untoward happens, fences will be the cheapest prevention as stadium insurance will go through the roof

The recent invasions have been worrying and it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt. The assault on Sharp shows where we are heading. I have no problem with pitch invasions being banned. Sadly as ever, a few nutters spoil it for everybody, but there is no reason to be on the pitch and it is perfectly possible to celebrate in the stands.

Well that only goes and confirms that some new rules/things are gonna be put in place to stop it all. Whether it’s more CCTV and you’ve gotta take a picture at the turnstiles so that they can identify people and give them fines, bans or even sentences,
Or maybe it’ll be points deductions, X amount of games behind closed doors etc, but the FA have gotta do something now with 6 of these in a week and 3/4 of them having major incidents in them

Poll: Should the football be on again next weekend
