The worst is yet to come, 31st Dec 2023 REUL Bill sunsets 4000 EU laws in 1 fell swoop, no country has ever done this in world history. Employment rights, food safety, environmental laws, all protections abolished, transition phase mean corporate fascism for UK.

It proposes that most REUL will automatically cease to apply or will be “sunset” unless preserved by legislation made by one of the UK’s four governments before 31 December 2023 (with a possible extension to 23 June 2026 at the UK Government’s discretion).

As working people we need the Tory party out of office.

They were duped by conmen wrapping themselves in the union flag and exploiting the uk govt driven austerity situation as a stick to beat the EU with.
Whilst the real reason was tax avoidance for the super wealthy.

Good decent people were conned, as well as the hard of thinking.

Without getting into the ins and outs of it the question should be asked do we need these four thousand laws? Seems like an awful lot of red tape. Four thousand?

I have to confess the only thing better than the people of the UK voting to free themselves from the undemocratic shackles of the EU is watching the rewhingers continuing unremitting public displays of angst as apparently their futures have been stolen from them by the unfeeling acts of the majority of the voting population..

I have no issue at all with leave voters who did so due to concerns around being controlled by unelected officials in Brussels. I really mean that and I’ve seen nothing that would change their minds since 2016.

However, it’s now clear that that benefit does have massive consequences for future generations.

Kilky it should be a stick to beat them with. Austerity was an official EU policy. It was a vital stipulation of the Maastricht Treaty to reduce government spending and borrowing. They doubled down on this following the crash of 2008. It was for this reason that Gordon Brown started the public spending cuts in October 2009. Of course it’s also true that the tories are in general ideologically aligned to austerity and delivered it with relish to help their mates as they do.

It’s also a fact after 2009 any member state not complying with EU rules faced fines and sanctions. They were legally obliged to follow the rules. If you look at it objectively it’s impossible to absolve the EU from all blame.

On a serious note this bill does have significant ramifications. Unintended consequences, months of parliamentary time sabre rattling about deregulation will come to nothing and all that will happen is the laws will be within a mm tolerance of what it is now.

Oh to be a grown up country that seeks an EEA/EFTA model...

We’ve voted Brexit and that’s what we’ve got, but a lot of the laws being axed (unless they are replaced with identical legislation) are going to have massive detrimental impacts on people and in particular workers rights. For example TUPE will be axed as will protections for part time workers, people on fixed term contracts. Over and above that we’re going to see environmental protections laws axed, we’ve already seen the U.K. allowing the temporary use of pesticides which harm bees and are banned in the EU and there’s the relaxation of laws controlling water portion and discharge.

We’ve got to try and make Brexit work - it’s too early to go back, but so far a lot & the things that are happening or are due to happen we’re never discussed in 2016.

One thing we have to be careful of, is if when we diverge from EU standards then it could well create deeper barriers to trade with the EU. What we should be doing is our own thing, but in a way that still allows us to trade with the EU.

Old fashioned view…perhaps we should,as a nation, stop bickering and get on with things.
No matter what camp you’re in the majority vote prevails. What is the point of voting if you do not accept the result. Isn’t that what Democracy is based on?

Democracy is not a one off event in 2016.
Thats the point.

It was an advisory referendum with a narrow margin.
Plus - like Trump in 2016 - has Russian interference written all over it.
Also it was heavily biased to older Leave voters, to the extent that the majority of 2016 voters still alive voted Remain. And few of the Leave voters wanted the hard Brexit we got.

Brexit cannot be wished away.
It will be reversed at some point, its a national uk wide disaster.

Even with my pee brain, I thought there will be short term pain leaving EU, it's a process that would take years to sort out. I just think folks need to show some patience especially with the economy shut down for two years. EU countries are in the same shit as us.

Even when you know, you never know?

Cameron gambled and lost…that’s history. In these shite times as a nation we are disintegrating due to a lack of respect for democracy. We constantly waste time analysing, carrying out polls, shit stirring at every opportunity by all the media instead of saying ok, let’s get on with things. That was the point I was trying to make.

Decades of precedent in the courts. So, current equality act legislation would differ as of 1.1.24 which could lead to employers getting off the hook. Have we not learnt anything from the referendum that doing something "cos we can" isn't justification to do it.

Mogg is driving this.
We need a general election pronto.

The likes of Jezza and the Labour supporters who enabled Brexit should have seen this attack on workers rights and environmental rights coming.

What the hell did they think Brexit was really about ?

Yes they did I think….along with a singular accountability regarding the UK government in post referendum issues.
However I think the Covid outbreak…which no one foresaw….has changed the dynamics of governance regarding the workplace. One reason why oldies are being asked to return to the workplace to fill in the gaps and help lower inflation by working for peanuts.
Nice.
