Glasgow Rangers back for Whittaker on 07:05 - Jan 25 by jack247 | If you’re classing Darling and Wood as failures, I think that’s very harsh. Sorinola is on loan, though Martin did say he’d have liked to have brought him in permanently. We overpaid for Fisher, given that he’s good with his feet, but Benda is better at pretty much every other aspect of goalkeeping. Our owners have already admitted they want him to bring players in and sell them for a profit. I doubt they’ll look at it as 1 in 5 or 3 in 5, they’ll look at it as what they’ve spent in transfers, fees, wages versus what they’ve sold Downes for and the potential value of the others. I don’t look at it that way personally, but to me it’s a football club, to them it’s a business. |
I think the Downes situation sums up our fans superbly, there were a few on here last season(mainly that plonker Andy Cole) who constantly knocked Downes, mainly because Martin signed him, declared Grimes the far better player. How it panned out Grimes resigned with us after very little to no clubs showed a real interest in him, he even had the opportunity to move 6 months later as a free agent. Downes went on to sign for West Ham in a deal that could see us take in over 10M. The board will certainly see us as a business, players like Cabango, Darling, Oli Cooper, Whittaker and others will be seen as assets for future incoming financially. I would also like to chuck in Oli Cooper here regards the progression of players, the current management need to have high praise with him....sent out on loan, got his game time up and got him grounded at Newport, given his chance and he hasn't looked back since. The lines are so fine from success to failure as a player and the Oli Cooper situation is as perfect as you can get and highlights the gains that can be achieved when loaned out for lengthy periods.......a concern that the staff might have had after the board called their asset Whittaker back from Plymouth.

Anyone who didn't see Downes was going to a good player knows little about football.

Agendas cloud people's minds and detach them from reality on situations like this. Of course he was going to be a god player but of course that was going to happen even before he joined us......suffice to say, why did he join us if that was the case! It makes sense in someone's head 🙈

Whittaker is a good problem to have. He seems a decent logical sort of fellow. The manager does not like him but the owners do. He is an improving player . A rapidly improving player at 22. He value is only going one way. Ask for £4m with add ons or no deal. The manger and the player need to sort out their differences. If Martin does not play him it will be a problem for Martin as Arriola and Morris were for Cooper. January cluster Flex's are like that.

The owners like him because he has a cash value simple as that. To think otherwise is nieve, £2.5M and he will be gone.

There’s numerous problems with Fabrizio’s report. He got the fee wrong, but he can’t be expected to know everything. Plus the sell on, and that’s in dispute atm. He’s definitely one of the most informed journalists across football so the thing to take from it is that Rangers will or are already back for him.

Glasgow Rangers back for Whittaker on 21:57 - Jan 24 by Dr_Parnassus | Show me your comments at the time telling the forum your thoughts on him, or anyone else’s for that matter. He was God awful that season and he continued to be so at Coventry to barely started him. He came good this season, not last season. That’s what happens sometimes with young players. |
He was never given a run of games by Cooper to make a proper judgement either way. He did come good last season, he scored 19 goals! Coventry clearly didn't think he was awful because they signed him on a permanent contract after his loan ended.
Glasgow Rangers back for Whittaker on 11:31 - Jan 26 with 939 views | dobjack2 | Is it getting any closer? Whilst I have no sympathy for Obafemi and Prato I do have some for Whittaker. The loan spell complicated things for him and the clubs as if he played for us no Rangers move; and he clearly wants the move. It would be interesting to know when we knew about the Rangers interest; before or after he was recalled. [Post edited 26 Jan 2023 12:44]

My guess is before. Think a lot happens with tentative enquiries way before the window opens

You buy into fake narratives that the US people are voracious money grabbing 'hedge funders' with short term aspirations and no care for the future well being of the club. It is fake. Welsh fans are so blind sided and love their club so much they will invest their last penny to help the club. It is fake. The Fans ownership are actually taking money out from either from the club or the other owners with no plan to invest whatsoever. The Convertible loan loan was a chance for them to invest and receive 5% return on their holding while helping the club through Covid. It was not taken, no surprise there. Their model is the Women's Institute. Money is not a driver.. Their driver is a "presence" at matches and cub events. The owners might see bigger returns don the track if Martin can give the kid a run in the team. The owners can not tell Marin who to pick but can control the levers of trading. They have done well to hold out for £4m for Oba if that is true.

You are wrong. If you have read my posts previously you will understand that I am in favour of the current owners and the way they run my club.
