Bearing in mind how skint we are it's scandalous that we didn't get a record transfer fee for Ethan - and the millions that Premier League clubs have at their disposal. Yes we might get future add ons but I've seen reported that the initial fee was as low as £300 k.

If we got couple of hundred thousand pounds for him and the deal has a lot of milestone payments it has to be a decent deal. He obviously impressed their fans yesterday and will continue to improve under Thomas Frank who has a history of developing young players.

Milestones have served us well, Hogan and Dawson. Sometimes you win sometimes you loose, but for me the gamble is worth it.

Seriously? We've just been told the cost of running RAFC at the forum. Wages we can't sustain, utility bills through the roof. Having to loan 350k against the stadium to help us get by. 200k these days is not worth much in football terms - we were selling players for that amount nearly 20 years ago! Then you factor in Brierley's age and the fact we are selling to a Premier League club who have millions available for transfers. We should be demanding at least a million and then add ons on top of that for a player we've nurtured since he was a young boy and who has massive talent now and even more to come. There is no point the club pleading poverty but then let one of our brightest ever prospects leave for pittance.

In other news on 08:45 - Aug 7 with 4389 views | NorthernDale | One problem is the board naive approach to running the club, if you keep telling everyone how skint and desperate we are for money, then other clubs will offer peanuts in the knowledge we will accept it. Yes, we are short of money, but you don't advertise it to other clubs, it makes us look like a basket case of a club, you could be a bit more discreet. McNulty hinted that rumours of other clubs being interested in Rodney and apparently Newport are desperate for another striker, but to quote Jim, it would take a big offer for him to go, but we know that the board will take any offer and thanks to the board statements, and other clubs know this. I would be interested to know how much we actually got for Ethan, did we sell him on the cheap? Hopefully there will be add on's for example included in Brierley transfer, based upon potential first team appearances, etc (including a percentage of any transfer fee). In other news on 11:45 - Aug 8 with 4024 views | YadHoDale | Devante Rodney should maybe be setting his sights higher than L2, imho. He got into double figures for goals scored last season, despite playing in a pretty dreadful team and being shoved out on the wing for part of the season. If he can find his shooting boots in the NL and get 15 ish goals by Christmas, I can see a decent L1 club (Shrews, Bolton, Lincoln or even Port Vale) being interested, and probably having more money than Newport to spend...

Decent player Devante, but this is his level.

We could have demanded over a million with add ons for Ethan but would never of got it, so it would just have been posturing. Luke had scored at Old Trafford aged 16; and got an assist against Premier League opposition in a televised game. Plus a decent number of games at L1 level. His profile was definitely superior to Ethan’s and we got a million for him (what excellent business that proved to be). I can recall people rubbishing that deal in here at the time, with valuations of 4 million being suggested. I’ll say it again potential is the most over valued commodity in football.

Where there is a negotiation and you are in a weak position, ie short of money , you can ask any price you like , but at the back of your mind is the cash situation and the need to pay wages. Brierley could make us plenty of money over the next few years, but bear in mind we had offers from 3 clubs to consider, so we have to assume that we took the best offer and the one Brierley was happy with. If it was £200k or £300k, it has to be balanced against total cost for Brentford and total income for Rochdale. Its easy to throw numbers in the air, but what if Brentford had walked away because we were coming up with silly numbers, especially knowing we are skint? Would Brierley be happy? Would the people expecting to be paid over the summer be happy? We are a selling club, we have to be because we don't have enought money in the bank not to be. If we were cash rich we would be able to turn buyers away, we can't because we are on our uppers. What we need is reliable, budgetable, income from off-pitch sources. Then selling players is easy...

"I’ll say it again potential is the most over valued commodity in football." Which is exactly why we shouldn't be selling our young players for under the going rate.

Talking of silly numbers, £150k,200k or £300k for an extremely talented 19 year old footballer to a multimillion Premier League football club - now that is silly. Like I said we were getting 200-300k for players nearly 20 years ago now. Times have changed - unfortunately our club are so naive they don't understand the going rate for Premier League clubs buying players.
