Both Eddie Gray and Doug Collins were outsiders who came in with the club facing relegation and rescued the situation dramatically. What happened subsequently didn’t help their reputation but….lucky appointments?
It makes you wonder who the Board would have appointed as his replacement if he had gone to Burton? And how things would have panned out subsequently? One for the “what if” alternative historians.
Looking at the highlights it was interesting to see Ryan Galvin run half the length of the pitch to score the third. It might have been how he was asked to play but he never hinted at doing anything similar with Dale.
Hamstring injuries seem to be prevalent these days. I noticed last night that Kyron Gordon (who seldom seemed to miss a Dale game apart from one short spell a couple of years ago) wasn’t playing for Stockport due to a hamstring problem which will sideline him for a few weeks.
Nicely taken penalty from Andy Cannon as well. Lynch wasn’t helped later on in his Dale career by the fact that Robbie Stockdale could never decide if he or Joel Coleman was first choice keeper.
Noticeable too between Wilson, Flint and Waller when the first two goals went in. Lots of shouting and waving of arms at the keeper. Mind you, could Flint have done more to block the third? In the end he only deflected the shot. Playing from the back in that weather just wasn’t on. Having said that, if Waller kicked it long it soon came back again.
If we’ve two fit keepers I can’t see us being able to bring in a loanee. Otherwise I’d be saying let’s get a right back/left back on loan from somewhere.
I’ve seen worse over the years (anyone else remember losing 6-0 to Plymouth at Spotland around 1973) but that’s way up the list of dispiriting performances. Comprehensively outplayed. And that midfield trio all played because the only current backup is a 16 year old rookie.
As bleak as the weather. Why has no one got at Tutonda after his early yellow. So naive. Notice Sherring was straight down the tunnel after being subbed. Paterson must be wondering what he’s let himself in for. At least Gilmour is still chasing lost causes.
This could be a long thread by the end of the day. I’d have settled for being one goal behind at the break but we’ve collapsed. Sherring looks exactly what he is, a centre back being asked to play in a strange role. Midfield anonymous and they’re clamping down on the wide men. Not many positives at all. Just hope for an improvement now we’ve got the elements in our favour…
