Why is it managers cant see what we fans see 21:12 - Aug 28 with 6531 views | vetchonian | I have begun to wonder why it is managers seem not to be able to spot the issues in a team that we fans see such as the unbalanced midfield with Grimes and Fulton, five at the back for example. This seems to be not unique to Duff as these things were highlighted under Martin too and over the years many of our mamagers even before the advent of the Internet had critique by fans of things not right in the team. Surely if us "amateurs " can see this why dont the "pros"

Why is it managers cant see what we fans see on 20:29 - Aug 29 by max936 | "I did think Duff had said though, we would be more high tempo, more front foot. I do hope we haven't signed a manager who's turning into Martin Mk2. Time will tell. To be honest I don't think Duff knows as whether have a shite or an haircut at the moment, after watching us Saturday, I'm unable to come to any other conclusion to be honest! |
Martin eventually won some games , problem with Duff bless him is that he’s promised something from the outset ( less possession based football but high tempo counter attacking) that he can’t deliver. Hopefully things will change but it’s hard to see how at the moment.

He has quality but is hopelessly negative and needs to embrace a new/different style. Please someone in the club...do this simple thing...

It's not just the negativity, he slows us down to a walking pace. Any attacking advantage we create is nullified by our own player. Grimes does have quality but he is underperforming, no wonder nbosy has made a serious bid for him. Pundts keep saying what a great player he is yet nobody has tried to buy him, why is that?

Not even the managers who have for some reason considered him indispensible here have been all that bothered about taking him with them. Southampton have just signed Downes on loan which tells you everything you need to know about Martin's opinion, yet we've rushed to offer him a new contract and an undoubted payrise to fend off non-existent interest, and not for the first time.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Pundits talk sheete about him. His passing “ stats” mislead. Most are static and backward. The very root of our problems and always has been. He strangles us really. One with fanboy following though for sure

Are we playing 3, 5 or 7 at the back, at times, a lot of times, given the way we play, teams are now coming to the Swansea.com stadium and playing like a home team sitting 4 across their front line and we just don't seem to know how to deal with it, the both WBs dropping deep so do the defensive midfielders, 7 back in defensive and hemmed in at home and acres of room left in the midfield. Why have 7 players back against 4, even more so when we have the ball about making it easy for the opposition 4 to close down spaces in condensed backline. For me there is just not enough movement within the team to set up the triangles of play to move the ball quickly to pull the opposition about and not enough movement to cover players as they press forward to ensure we can counter the opposition's attempt to pull us out of shape. Lack of pace, skill or leadership on the pitch, it all should pivots around the centre of the pitch you would very rarely see Leon Briton stand still unless he was in space offering himself to runners such as Rangel who knew as he played his pass the triangle of players would rotate to offering space in front, options inside and knowing there is cover for him as he pushed forward with Leon would be in a position to cover the space vacated by Rangel, not sit deep alongside a CB. Those triangle also operated in the reverse direction with Leon pressing forward instead That may sound very simplistic but last year as Manning press forward it was Ollie Cooper who dropped back to cover him. For me Grimes and Fulton seem tied to the CB offering too little in the way of forward momentum only being push to go forward when we fall behind and if they do press forward someone must drop back to maintain cover in the defence one of the two WB who may have to come inside more instead of being out wide isolated and ineffective to the team and leaving the middle exposed to the counter. Not working as a team yet.

Creativity in the middle is somewhat lacking. We’ve lost that forward momentum now Ntcham has gone. However, Grimes does have certain games that he can turn round.

I think most players have pluses and minuses if fitted into the correct system but there has to be a balance and adaptability knowing when to push forward and when to drop back yes you have to have creativity but if the creative player is not given space it is up to the team to create it for them remembering if we don't get the defensive part of the game right you can have all the creative in the world which would be wasted, last year you couldn't have Pato and Ntcham in the same team until we went to four at the back. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

My opinion remains that Grimes is the player to bring on for the last 30 when we are winning BUT he isn't going to drive us forward and consistently create chances. He's great when the game needs slowing down but he has no urgency going forward.

Not sure about 30mins I want us as a team which always has a viable threat while maintaining our defensive integrity. Can we honestly say that since we came down and we have been able to do that consistently? Under Potter younger players flourished but we couldn't defend set pieces for toffee, Cooper slowly blunted that sharp attacking edge to ensure defensive strength and Martin while creating goals from free flowing football he invited ridiculous amounts of pressure on our defence. We can blame owners or transfer issues for these failings but as with the run at the end of last season the manager got it right at long last with the players at his disposal, wouldn't expect us to win ever game but where would we be if we had that consistency all season? New season with new players and new manager having to work out who he can rely on young or old and those who cannot be relied on to be effective all game and used accordingly, which system is most effective so that when teams put us under pressure we can deal with it and have ways to relieve the pressure applied.
