Southampton Midfielder Shocked By Fans Booing At St Mary's on 13:10 - Oct 10 by SaintNick

I agree with you I have no problem with fans venting their anger after a game.

Most on here seem to be trying to make the point that the booing was directed at Martin, how do players know that, Martin wasn't the one who failed to score more than 1 out of 20 attempts.

On another day, on Saturday we might have hit 3 or 4, the chances created warranted that, but it wasn't the players fault it was the managers and he was just unlucky in that he was being watched by 28,000 who had never ever seen a team who were supposedly far worse park the bus for 89 minutes and get something out of a game that they shouldn't have.

Football is a funny old game as they used to say, if Adam Armstrong's goal hadn't been offside and then Will Smallbone had kept down his shot a little bit in the second half and buried it, then no one would have booed we would have all gone home happy and all been thinking that we will now surge forward.

s**t happens in football, Rotherham players must have wondered what was happening, a team 1 point off the play offs is booed off whilst they don't get booed off at home even though they are in the bottom three.

How do you know they don’t get booed off at home?

They are over-achieving as a club just by being in this division.

We aren’t.

Poll: Would you take going down to League 1 if it meant new owners coming in?

Hi Nick, I agree with what you’re saying to a certain extent but unfortunately on another day we aren’t hitting 3 or 4 and generally if we do we concede as many

I also think the Rotherham players must have wondered what was happening, a team 1 point off the play offs who scored after 2 minutes and had 79% possession couldn’t beat a team 2nd from bottom who hadn’t won a game in 10 matches and had only scored 9 goals

There is a gap between expectation of what our team, even shorn of several PL quality players, should be doing and what they are doing. Frustrating.

There is a gap between what we think some players should be doing and what they are doing. We see players performing below their alleged quality. Frustrating.

There is a gap between what the owners want (to make money) and what we want - success. Frustrating.

Then we have a stubborn manager who talks to the press and media but doesn't rally communicate beyond "I'm know I'm right and I'll keep going until it works". Until now, his style has not worked and we fear that it will never work or worse, will start working late in the season and leave us just shy of the play offs. Frustrating.

We can direct our frustration at any of the above groups and express it by booing. How that is perceived is not of interest to those booing and they care not that it's very ineffective.

Would normally agree.

However…..

This team should be doing a whole lot better than it is.

Our salary bill will be several times higher than the likes of Ipswich and Preston; however we are conspiring to woefully under-achieve.

Yes i see that, but i dont think it was merited on Saturday and now hearing the audio again on twitter, its ridiculous.

I dont get it, its clearly not helpful as stated by manager and a player on this occasion.
