Marti post-match 16:10 - Dec 26 with 7120 viewsstainrods_elbow

Bland, boring and frankly uninspiring. We lacked 'bravery', apparently - no shit, Sherlock! And quality. And creativity. And urgency.

Try giving us one or two answers to the team's problems, or just stay in the dressing room!

Poll: How many points will we manage from our first 5 games with this squad?

For my 2 Penneth, MC’s rotation is not just like for like, I believe he is seeing how many square holes there are for square pegs. We’ve seen Kelman on right wing, Illias left and middle, Paal, left and centre, EDB back and forth etc. Clive this is not a guy without a plan he is testing who fits where best, which kinda makes me feel he is on one hand taking a massive risk but on the other trying to open the genies lamp with what we have. As for interviews he is miles better than last 4, personally I think the press should wait until the next day. Andy

It's a duty for managers to give a post match press conference.
That doesnt mean he has to give any meaningful responses to media questions?

Yeah. I can't get around the feeling he knows something we don't. If he's been tracking the club for as long as we're told, then he has to have known what, and where, the weaknesses are. Our lack of goals, for example, is blindingly obvious. Something is going to happen in the coming month. "I can feel it in my water," as my Grandma used to say.

He’s been giving nearly all the squad some game time. In addition to the games he’d watched prior to taking the job and taking training, I’d say he’ll already have an idea of who he rates or not and will have discussed it with the board.

The main problem is that we can swap out 5 players who are dross, with a couldnt give a sh1t attitude, and with severe learning difficulties, but.....

........ more than 5 have the cancer that has caused this situation. so maybe you need to cut 8 players, then you might have a chance, or....... you say sod this, play with the crud we have and gladly go down, to get better FFP etc terms, get rid of most except 2 or 3 players, and try again with an almost clean slate in divi 1.

I'm also concerned about our fitness regimen, the coaches the analytic rubbish and the new training ground. Are we getting fitter? i dont see it myself, and dawdling around the back line the other night reverting to 'toblerone' footy but at a snails pace isnt going to get us anywhere but lower.

I am backing Marti, but, this year is manager merry go round for the championship, and if Marti isnt 'locked in' , then i fear he might be lost to a bigger club with 10 games to play.

Where's the mystery? I'm a QPR fan, and I follow all things QPR, with the critical and sometimes unhinged love that is my prerogative and punishment - and indeed my obligation - as a fanatic. You might as well tell me, if performances are going south and you're not happy with what you're seeing, why watch them either? I don't understand what your problem is. Meanwhile, if other fans are happy to suck up post-match interviews that trade in hot air when it comes to our 'strike force' and turn our supporters into mugs, good luck to them, but I'm not.

Here's one florid fantasy of how a more satisfying and authentic post-match interview could go:

INTERVIEWER: Marti, that's one goal in four games, and one has to wonder right now when the next one will arrive. What do you say to fans who are understandably anxious that this, as claimed by the inestimable Clive Whittingham on LFW, and after an infuriating little run that filled us with savage hope, is indeed a team with no goals in it? We're second lowest scorers in the table ffs. Pick the bones out of that plate of paella!

MC: Their feelings are as understandable as you say, but, as the coaching staff, we mustn't panic and look at the bigger picture, even if the bigger picture resembles Picasso's Guernica. I'm not the Messiah, and I'm not the Spanish Armada. If another four games produces the same result, and then another four, and then another, we may have to tweak a few things. We need to look at how we can time our attacks of the spaces better and create some chances in the box. We're currently working on the revolutionary idea of getting some players in there to make it happen. Or not. I picked that up from El Presidente Andy Sinton.

INTERVIEWER: Sorry, Marti, you said exactly the same thing after the Plymouth game as I recall. Or was it the Sheffield Wednesday game? It's already feeling like a bit of stock answer. You want the team to be braver, but why don't you take the lead?

MC [whirling a red cape]: Ole!

INTERVIEWER: No bull! Turning to our Scottish tornado Lyndon Dykes, he's contributed around 20 Championship goals in the last three years, and about two and a half this season. He doesn't score, he doesn't create, he doesn't anticipate, he barely registers on our visual fields. What is he for apart from modelling a gruesome array of tattoos?

MC: We need to learn how to activate him. At the moment, he is apparently rather inactive. If we can't do it, he may need to be taken away to be deactivated. Or we could sell him to Millwall for 500 pesetas and a bottle of Calvados.

INTERVIEWER: What about the continued policy of playing Chair out wide? Can he not function as a no. 8? Dozzell pulls about as many strings as a one-armed guitarist and has a face like a stoned zombie!

MC: We're looking to see if any of the other Seven Dwarfs may be available to keep Dozy company in the middle. Colback, aka the Ginger Whinger, is already auditioning for the role of Grumpy. But I have to say I don't see any part for Happy in this club, however.

INTERVIEWER: Finally, what's your seasonal message to the fanbase if only to keep people's spirits up?

MC: We need you, even if we don't deserve you. O come all ye faithful! And ye faithless!

Firstly, I don't have a problem.

The reason, I asked the question is that your comments, once again, seem to be out of touch with the world we now live in.

As you know these interviews are an obligation. I feel sure he would rather say nothing. At least he is fairly honest in not 'sugar coating' things and at the same time trying to keep the players onside whilst he tries to motivate and improve them.
Yes they are repetitive and not illuminating but that is how it is.

I watch them too but I don't go searching for them, especially whilst upset straight after a poor performance. I don't have high expectations of them.

I think honestly there's not a being on earth could get much out of this squad. Absolutely rotten to the core. Any results we do get have to be flukes, opposition on a bad day etc

So many dumb, lacklustre, brainless, gutless, zero pride, just pick up your paycheck (non)performers in the squad. It's gone on for so long it just can't be every manager, the manager is a big part of things but really it's the team isn't it, they step onto the pitch and they are in the moment, in the battle and just same and same again....this team just stinks

Not just the team….what about the hordes of back room grifters who have been stealing a living from our clueless ,absentee owners for years? Club is rotten and needs a complete rebuild.

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

The other thing is, with this one, Cifuentes is exactly right., He calls it straight away in his first answer, we're not brave enough. Not brave enough with the ball to pass it forwards and take it in tight spots and actually do something with it, and not brave enough without it where we lost every tackle and every second ball to a more physical team. He saw it exactly as I saw it. It was a cowardly performance and he called it straight away so I don't get the problem.

I don't watch these interviews what's the point and whats the bloody bloke gonna say thats so important?
I watched a GA interview once that was appallingly bad and embarrassing, the following week I took a chance and watched another one and the bloke was even worse than the previous week.

...yes, also a poster who is happiest belittling others and patronising them. That imaginary post match interview he's posted is presumably an attempt at humour, but is just an embarrassing waste of half a page. The ignore button should be replaced with a "delete user" button.

O just pipe down, or take up a hobby - if you think it's puerile, how sad are you for commenting on it regardless! (And thanks for your touch of Cyberman-like technofascism at the end - if you own a mirror, try looking into it once in a while rather than coming over as a bullying jerk!)

I agree, Clive, but it's his job to fix it . . . if he can. If he can't, or won't, or the team is unable to respond to him, to repeat my question, why bother appointing a coach at all?

Or perhaps the "unreasonable" man is just a f*cking pathological narcissist, who thinks that the world should revolve around him, and throws his toys out of the pram when it doesn't.

Not that I'm suggesting this relates to anyone in this thread or on this forum on general, just stating that perhaps the much feted Mr Bernard Shaw might have been a little blinkered in his assessment of the human condition.

Well done you - is that little tizz your counter-argument?

One of the great playwrights and thinkers of the 20th century, and that little spurt of cliched resentment is your response! I'm sure Shaw will be looking down and quaking at such a show of philosophical might. To use your own word, what are you feted for again yourself?

Embarrassing . . .

I wasn't having a "tizz" as you put it, just enjoying poking a finger in your eye.
Thanks for your completely overblown reaction which was particularly entertaining, and fully justified my original comment.
As it happens, I'm not particularly concerned with justifying my existence to either your good self, or indeed, Mr Shaw. I'm perfectly happy in the realm in which I operate, and have friends and work colleagues who are more than happy to enjoy my presence and recognise the value I bring to their lives.
This also puts me in a great position to call out bollox when I hear it, and I couldn't really give a rat's arse if that viewpoint has been expressed by some supposed "great thinker".
I had the misfortune to have to study Pygmalion when I did O'level English Literature hundreds of years ago, and I thought it was a slow-moving, boring ballache of a waste of time.
Its a shame Mr. Shaw is not aound himself, as I would have enjoyed sharing this opinion owith him. To be fair to him, though, his joke about why you can spell "fish" "ghot" is quite funny.

Not sure that MC or anyone else for that matter will say much more, for all the reasons that others have expressed.

The important thing for me is that MC is Manager of this football club next season, whatever Division we are playing in.
