“Paul Walsh, a 56-year-old roofer, said he knew all about the controversy but he was still going to vote Labour anyway.”

I’m no expert, but how would this be possible?

Because they are still on the ballot paper, just like the Greens , despite both parties withdrawing their support for the candidates standing in their name. If either candidate wins, not likely, especially in the case of the Greens, they will be in the Commons as an independent MP, and if standing to defend the seat in the General Election, would have to stand as an Independent, unless they were adopted by another party, which would be extremely unlikely . Neither will be standing in the General Election for their current party, as both their respective parties have suspended them and are likely to expell them, unless they resign their membership. If either candidate gets 5% or over of the vote, then the relevant party will receive their £500 deposit back.
