He might have been highly rated, but we signed Piroe at the same time. How did they anticipate them working together given their playing styles?

You are right about the players and styles of play not necessarily complimenting each but it is up to the coach, manager or whatever we want to call them, to adopt a style of play that suits the players he has available to him while also realising that that style has to change to suit the circumstances as they change. Why is he asking Key and Tymon to push into the midfield maybe because we are being over run in midfield, maybe because previously pushing Tymon and Key up on our wingers left us short at the back needing our central midfielders to drop deep meaning as we get stifled down the wings we are also short in the midfield unable to support the centre forward.
We claimed Martin's team didn't have pace or a decent full back on the ring hand side and yet when he changed his set up to four at the back with the players he had the percentage of points gained went up
Williams has tweaked things to sort out the midfield problems and the percentage iof points have dropped from earlier in the season and the end of last season needs to go back and look at what worked in both those instances.

Is it the job of the manager?
A lot of the time these days they aren't "the manager" but "first team coach" or any number of variants on that.
The club have back room staff, such as Director of Football, who are there to ensure continuity throughout the Club. They are there to ensure that decisions are made that are the best for the long term future of the club and to look beyond the immediate needs of the first team, such as long term recruitment plans.
The first team coach is there to get results in the here and now.
We have spent a lot of money on youngsters who aren't quite ready, but there is belief that they coukd make it.
Some do, many don't. Very few go on to be €100m strikers.
We were offered him for £1M, someone dropped a big one and I don't think it was entirely the managers fault

The club put a €100m football on a plate to Cooper for a reported option €1m and the manager chose not to develop him and play him.

To add insult to injury the manager after the €100m player left complained he had been hard done by and had no striker.

What is more baffling is that fans accepted and are accepting this bogus argument. Cooper preferred Cullen

Swansea city is not a big club. It cannot buy great players. Swansea city have caught a bad cold when spending big. e.g. Borja

Swansea has to buy potential and graft hard to develop them. This is the club policy. The manager has to understand this and not be focused entirely on the next game. Kukharevych needs game time but also needs developing to remove the rough edges and sloppiness perhaps. Hopefully the Hibs coach will do this.

The club has a plan. Vipotnik and Bianchini just need to keep working and improve. Swansea cannot allow managed to write of players picked by the club

You need help. Cooper rated him highly, Swansea City FC rated him highly. He was never happy here, nothing to do with the football side of his life. He was RECALLED by Brighton on 14 January 2021, after scoring 2 goals for us in 3 months. Coventry had him on loan for 2 years before paying £1mill for him (3 goals 1st season, 18 goals 2nd season, 22 goals 3rd season.) Sporting paid £20mill for him last year. The 2024/2025 financial climate with Man City / Arsenal knocking on the door £75 mill might not be out of the way for those 2 money bag clubs however a goal a game in Portugal football is good but not great.

A Brighton view posted today

https://www.wearebrighton.com/newsopinion/the-viktor-gyokeres-elephant-in-the-br

"In fact, nobody at the Amex did too much wrong. The Viktor Gyokeres elephant in the Brighton room is that there was little to suggest the player he would develop into, either during his time with the Albion or on one of the three different loans he was sent on."

"Some players are simply late developers. They fall through the net at clubs earlier in their careers and only start to flourish once they hit their mid-20s."

And you need to learn good manners and civility.

This is what they call a "red herring" and a new piece of information. A distraction for defence of a manager who made a huge mistake.

"He was never happy here, nothing to do with the football side of his life" you said. So where did this come from? Why a was Coventry any better?

I suggest he was probably unhappy because of his treatment buy the manager like another Swede Kris Petersen.

Spot on, we are being held back by the current owners. I don't accept this "look how much they have invested" nonsense. The simple fact is, if they didn't make so many ridiculous decisions through lack of football knowledge they wouldn't need to put so much in. Just bad ownership with shocking decisions.

I’ve just read the plans for the Racecourse and my eyes bled
What a revelation and transformation. They shame our owners and it stings
I was looking at the tables today in 1989. Wolves in the fourth division, average 5500.
Man City, 17000.
Leeds 17500
it’s truly is staggering what momentum does

The current owners are killing any momentum ,stone dead

That summer, rather than spend £1m on Gyokeres who had spent 6 months at the club and we had had a good look at. We spent £2M on Michael Obafemi, who we had only done a bit of scouting on.
Not only was he more expensive, he was also rather too similar to Piroe who we also signed that summer.
We would have had a front 2, with Gyokeres at 6 foot 2 and a smaller Piroe behind him at number 10.
Rather than a short, but quick, Obafemi and short Piroe, that ne er really worked well together.

That season we had a speedy inexperienced winger/centre forward and a clever player in Andre Ayew both were scoring goals but with Cooper relying on a strong defence he lacked the player to connect the midfield four to those forwards they were missing the pace or ability , Bidewell, Roberts, Fulton and Grimes. Maybe if Gibbs-White hadn't got injured so early on it night have been different, it did seem as if those two forwards in the end couldn't or wouldn't connect or to each other will give them rhe benefit of the doubt as Lowe got moved to the left wing away from Ayew and to shore up the defence Cooper went to three in the middle but the inclusion of Hourihane weakened the midfield defensively and he dropped Lowe and yet we made the play off final in which Cooper reinstated Lowe so Cooper's tactics were relatively good getting us into the play offs twice.
As for Gyokeres was he not needed given Lowe's and Ayew's contibutions? A number of signing didn't pan out that might have made us stronger but the midfield was the main area of concern.
That concern has remains Downes added to Martin's teams strength but trying to play all three of Piroe , Paterson and Ntcham in the same team in Martin's formations didn't work, trying to shoehorn first Ntcham and then Piroe on the right wing then trying Ntcham and Paterson as attacking midfielders with very little supply on the wings left us defensively weaker especially as the wingback left us exposed when pushed further up the park, once Martin reverted to four at the back results became better.
William's went to a back four and got results especially with the inclusion of Franco in the middle of the park now trying again to play a back three with Grimes dropping deep just not working in trying to get us forward quickly.

Yes Cooper preferred out of contract Ayew on £80k a week and Lowe a converted winger with no sell on value. His was an ultra short term view. The long term benefit meant nothing to Cooper.

Goykeres was no use to him as he needs another year of development. Cullen was already the development project. Cooper chose Cullen over Gyorkeres. It was a poor piece of management.

Of course Cooper was looking for short term benefits for the club that was what he was brought in to do get us back to the Premier League, not sure on Ayew's contract given he arrived before we got relegated and do you choose Gyokeres over an experienced premier league player to get us promoted?

Cullen was at the club before Cooper arrived and his development faltered as he was injured in the January the same month as Gyokeres was let go and the following season his development was on loan at Lincoln not in the first team squad, the fact he is still here is purely down to circumstances the club has let itself get in.

Did Cooper have a lot of say about Gyokeres release I wouldn't think so as Gyokeres was let go almost the same day as the two Americans players arrived, so was it down to the owners wheeling and dealing that left Gyokeres go and not Cooper, didn't Cooper also have words to say about Peterson being sold behind his back. I don't think Cooper had a lot of say in the matter and the team more or less picked itself given who was available.

All managers have to work with the squads they have, not the ones they want, fans just give opinions basing things often on facts they don't know are 100 percent accurate.
Gyokeres was only here 3 months was deemed surplus to requirements and is just a footnote in the past.

Swansea fans appear to be happy that if athe next Alan Shearer walks through the door at 20 raw and u tested it is only right that the club should not recognize his potential and not spend any development time with him and nurture " true Jack" Cullen instead.

Swansea were a basket case and Huw Jenkins and Morgan changed the narrative. Swansea fans do not have a good word to say about them. It is the definition off stone cold losers. Their organisation in the ownership is the definition of losers. They won a $26m lottery and could not be bothered to submit the ticket.

Just to point out that Cov had him for just half a season before deciding to sign him for £1 million at a time when they rarely paid transfer fees.
Robins saw something that Cooper didn't & he was right, it happens.
No idea why it's still being argued over though 🤷‍♂️

It is discussed because it will happen again.and again. The Swansea academy CoE have never produced a local no 9 . The best is Cullen over 30 years and he cannot do the basics after 15 years of schooling.

Iwan Morgan decided London was a better place for him develop. Kristian Fletcher the DC guy scored 17 goal is double quick time and was not given a contract. You will find no warm words from him anywhere.

Swansea fans shrug their shoulders and say "it happens". I cannot happen when you consider the paucity of local players.

The fact is Levien has offered to buy Gyorkeres for around £1m for Cooper and he was not interested in the player. I put it to you he was not interested in the long term health of the club.

Now Swansea are wallowing mid table with a slew of prospects who all need time to gel. Next season will be better.

I have a suspicion Swansea city do not know what a top centre forward looks like. When the next Aln Shearer is struggling at the club the experience staff need to sign him up.
