Middlesbrough MP Andy McDonald has called for swift EFL action to punish Southampton over Spygate following their play-off heartbreak.
Middlesbrough were beaten by Southampton in a dramatic Championship play-off semi-final second leg at St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday night. The 2-1 defeat was made all the more bitter for Boro amid the off-the-pitch drama surrounding the fixture.
The Saints are alleged to have been caught spying on Middlesbrough training in the run-up to the opening leg game. The south coast club has already been charged by the EFL over a ‘breach of regulations’, with their punishment yet to be determined.
Middlesbrough MP Andy McDonald has urged the EFL to act swiftly in punishing Southampton over the Spygate saga after the North East side were knocked out of the Championship play-offs. He put pressure on the EFL to reach a decision quickly, writing on X: “Kim Hellberg’s post-match interview showed his decency, commitment and total integrity. By contrast, the Southampton manager walks out again when asked if he is a cheat.
“Remarkable lack of awareness for the club spokesman to respond with ‘Have some respect’. What respect did they show to Kim Hellberg, his players, to MFC and our fans? Southampton cannot be allowed to profit from their dishonesty. The EFL have to come down firmly and decisively on Southampton and they need to do it quickly.”

Don't forget it was spivs that ran our club into the ground and left charities unpaid.
And it was outraged local fans who went and paid those charities back. You see, we don't like underhand effects. That is why even as a L1 club we were generally in the top 20 clubs in the entire country. Quality fans. | |
