| Ousseynou Fall Seck - New Signing? 21:41 - Aug 1 with 23309 views | swansjack84 | Might be rumours? But sounds like we have made a bid for Ousseynou Fall Seck from Danish side Randers FC? I'm not one for highlights but I really like the look of him. Tall presence, quick and creative. Gives me Yaya Touré vibes. | | | | |

Agreed. I hope he is seen as a player who can come straight into the team and compete for his place.

He does give me Yalcouye vibes, but more quicker and stronger. This would defo fit the bill of a midfield and more physical side Matos has been rumoured to be wanting.

It's a bit bonkers that data analysis companies have taken over from just having a decent scouting network. Frank Burrows didn't need Jamestown Analytics, and neither did Kevin Reeves.

I think it's just a shift in how things are done. In years gone by you'd just have a big scouting network, or a particularly savvy manager. Apparently when Guidolin was in charge of Udinese they had about a dozen people on staff whose only job was to watch videos of games from all over Europe. Now it's all data analysis.

Analytics may be great at identifying potential players, but surely someone that knows the game needs to watch them live as well? Or is that a thing of the past?

The data should "highlight" or "shortlist" players. I can't imagine any club worth their salt would part with significant funds without doing further detailed analysis in person. Both in terms in footballing ability and character.

The football world has moved on,its about finding ways to identify new talent in a much wider field than previously due to the fees demanded from the traditional hunting ground clubs. We couldn't build a scouting network to cover all the bases. It's like all of football,Burrows and Martinez didn't have a row of analysts with laptops watching the game, and where once there was a cold bucket of water and a sponge there is a medical team

There are plenty of different models out there looking to replicate it, but they are going to be able to directly copy it and as models they just haven't proven success/track record that Jamestown Analytics has behind it. Also on comments that surely someone needs to watch them live, it's really about identifying potential players from which you would then want to be watching them either live or as much footage as possible. You'd then also wanting to be getting an idea for their character/personality before signing anyone. And as for the likes of Reeves not needing in the past, he didn't but I would imagine in this day and age the likes of Angel Rangel and Ferrie Bodde would be getting highlighted by other club's analytics now in the way they weren't back in 2007. At the time we were ahead of the game, and also around 2012/13 we were also ahead of the game and buying players from significantly cheaper markets in Spain where we could get Michu for £2 million and even Pozuelo for £500k. We've got to keep evolving though, and this is currently the best model to follow - although we also need to be looking ahead as it's going to keep evolving.

The whole Jamestown philosophy and algorithm methodology is exclusive to only a handful of picked few employees. Tony Bloom did get where he is today etc … You are right people can’t explain it because it is totally protected. An example. Black box access: Partner clubs and client operators receive bespoke outputs and recruitment lists, but they never see inside the actual models or algorithms.Selective partnerships: The firm strictly limits its collaborations to a small, controlled group of partnered teams to minimise exposure and leakage. Any NDA for departing the company would be tighter than your best mate at the bar.

Mind you, we had f all money to spend then. Sharpie would not have wanted Burrows having a menu of new players unless they weren’t over 100k each

👍 Team Tactics and StrategySet pieces: Measuring success rates, stability, and calls for scrums and lineouts. Breakdowns and phase play: Tracking ruck speed, tackle dominance, and phase-by-phase attack or defence shapes.Kicking and territory: Evaluating kick distance, chase efficiency, and exit success from the defensive half. Individual and Physical PerformanceGPS and physical metrics: Tracking high-speed running, acceleration, and decelerations. Contact load: Counting impacts, collisions, and physical stress during tackles using accelerometer data.Opposition and Match TrendsCompetitor analysis: Studying opponent habits, tendencies by field channel, and referee penalty patterns.Ball-in-play time: Calculating average effective playing time to structure training workloads. Physical maintenance in game play, how it fluctuates. Heart rates, collision and impact on the body, monitoring injuries on players returning and how the injury is dealing with physicality. Sudden drop in performance for coaches to make replacements, researching minute by minute blood pressure, brain analysis and potential medical intervention. Same for training.
