Yesterday was on Tonda.
The team didnt look fit, very slow and ponderous. There was a bit of drawing names out of a hat. Why was leo playing behind the forward and Dobbin out wide. Why did Edozie come on instead Fellows?

I thought Edozie was quite good tbh.
The Dobbin decision was caused by an impressive pre-season, however it was misjudged; the result, in my opinion, is largely on the crap actions of Jack Stephens. Our midfield was weak without either Jander or Charles, though I thought Downes was right up for it.
Delivery into the box was poor from all: Scienza, Manning and Bree. What worried me the most was the drop off after Larin came off; in previous seasons our striker switch worked in our favour. Our new loanee striker could well be very good, but he does not have the impact or style of play of Stewart. The club are deluded to believe they can replace Stewart easily - his play and the alternation with Larin was a main part of our successful second half of last season.
Having said that, THB needs to put away his chance in the last minute. It is unacceptable to put that off target. |  | | |

Overall, a bad day at the office which given our points deduction needs to be put right very quickly starting next Saturday.
Some strange first half tactical decisions and some poor defending effectively gave a poor Watford team a two goal start.
If T B H soon departs to sunnier climes, we have better have a replacement signed up before the summer window closes because I don’t fancy our chances with Wood and Stephens in the middle of defence. [Post edited 17 Aug 9:35]

Agreed.
We looked the same against Colchester last week.
We didn't look as if we'd had any pre season training.
Perhaps that's an element of the game that Tonda needs to learn, it was his first season of having to prepare a team for the start of the season & it showed.
We weren't fit & ready.
Also his starting line up was very odd, switching Scienze & Dobbin just didn't work.
Bit I don't rate Dobbin anyway, Azaz should have started. | | | |

That is the problem, modern day coaches try to be too clever.
There was a very interesting article in the paper last week written by Tony Mowbray.
He's been about for a while & knows the game inside out.
He was basically saying exactly that, he was suggesting that most coaches are trying to copy the Pep Man City model & it is killing the game.
Man City could do things different because of the quality of player they had, other teams ourselves included don't have that quality & should keep the game very simple.
Scienze is at his best when given a bit of space on the wing & cutting in, playing him centrally didn't allow him that space. | | | |
