Honestly though, the debt (long term) is the biggest issue - alongside fuel (short term) - which we face, which you’re right to point out. Our government’s just kick the can down the road to steal that awful cliche.

There was a piece in the economist the other week on this. Will the bond market burst I believe it was titled. Very interesting reading. Britain is one of the worst for this sort of fallacy, whereby we can go on spending whatever we want without increasing taxation. One example would be how Labour wants a care service. Paid on debt. They’re completely unserious.

As a young person, the idea of a welfare state geared towards a much smaller base (the young, based on lower birth rates) paying the older, much larger group, is terrifying. Either the young will eventually be taxed heavily or we’ll be paying a mountain of debt - greater than even thinkable currently - in my future. It’s depressing.

But Alistair Campbell says without the undemocratic 0.1% growth machine EU we’re missing 6% economic growth based on dodgy pre-Brexit “predictions”

The mere fact he’s a striker is enough to say he should’ve had a go today. 3-4 big chances on a plate for us. We needed a striker in the middle and it’s cost us.

Eckert in the past week has had an obsession with fitting as many (theoretical) wingers into his team as possible all while not utilising wingers. He’s allergic to strikers. Herr Eckert, please may you go back to your previous sanity: play a striker. Larin comes off and we’re back to sh*t.

We ended the game with Dobbin up front and Maksuki in central midfield. At one point Wellington was up front. What is going on.

“Why do you doubt me?” Perhaps Blackmore’s questioning was right, oddly.

Andy Burnham's speech

He holds a hilariously romantic view of the 1940s - actually the 40s to 70s. He mentions it every other speech.

So it wouldn’t surprise me if he tries to push his policies through even if it bankrupts the country.

Andy Burnham's speech
at 19:26 29 Sep 2026

It would’ve helped if Labour hadn’t been heavily addicted to the tax receipts of a debt-fueled housing bubble, stripped the regulators of teeth under the banner of 'light-touch' oversight, all so they could look the other way to fund their public sector spending spree. Two words: moral hazard.

The crash was a failure of private risk taking and public regulation, not an argument that the private sector itself is inherently culpable. The private sector is efficient… much more than the public sector. Burnham should understand this.

We’ve had 20 years of government expansion. Government spend increasing again and again.

Young people will never be able to own anything if they keep getting taxed extortionate amounts. And this Labour government - Tory before it - cements that future for years to come.

Bazunu Refuses to Play Against Israel and Issues Statement Explaining Why
at 10:25 28 Sep 2026

It’s just a bit silly though.

He’s not playing the IDF. He’s playing a football team. Would Bazunu shake Peretz’s hand or is he too Israeli for him?

Reading any good books right now?

Thanks for this, I’m up for giving this a go.

I am currently trying to learn a bit of German (with the hope of reading German poetry) so I’m sure a bit of Russian to read their prose and verse simultaneously won’t hurt.

Bazunu has saved the world…

Alas, no he hasn’t. He refused to play in a game of football - a game he was never going to be picked in either way.

I read a selection of Russian short stories a couple months ago.

Pushkin’s Queen of Spades being the best

The cloak by Gogol is great.

Was thinking fast and slow any good - I just bought it on Kindle sale.

Going through:

- Why Orwell Matters by Christopher Hitchens (currently about half way through)

Decent but he seemed to be using it as a debunking or attack on others’ view of Orwell. Yet to fully understand why he’s so important in his own view; saying this I have my own admiration for Orwell’s prose style.

On a different note, has anyone read The Price of Football by Kieran Maguire (?). I need a fun lax read. I was thinking Simon Jordan’s upcoming book.

He’s gone way beyond the mark of cheating… he should’ve done it 24 hours earlier when it was perfectly legal.

Harris says Southampton Football Club has been punished enough but Tonda deserves a big ban. Does he not realise a ban for Tonda is expensive to Saints? We’d need to spend on a new manager and have our entire season disrupted, again.
