I guess that is to appease those who believe we are letting too many people into the country.

They, or their parents, were probably granted asylum, yet they hate the country they live in and everything we stand for.

Releasing one bit of information in isolation doesn't help it raises questions like where were they born?

Their passports may say they are British but their actions say otherwise.
Add treason to terrorism charges then

Obviously they couldn't find any plastic bottles that could be used as weapons.

Based on the fact they’re being released so early it would suggest that the police have eliminated the possibility of it being a terrorist related incident and it’s possible that the men have done nothing wrong.

Under existing legislation police can initially hold a terrorism suspect for up to 48 hours before needing a warrant of further detention from a judicial authority, the initial 2 day period can be extended up to a maximum of 14 days so given those time lines, I suspect if the police and security services were satisfied that there were lines of enquiry to be pursued in relation to a terrorist incident the police etc would use up the detention clock and keep them in custody.

If running around outside a USAF base, a hundred miles from home at 1am, dressed in black wearing balaclavas is doing nothing wrong then I guess they were playing hide and seek.

Maybe they were poaching rabbits - who knows.

The police would have had 2 days to deal with these suspects before going to a Magistrates Court for a warrant of further detention, under existing legislation, terrorism suspects can be detained for up to 14 days.
Why would they release people they genuinely suspected of terrorist offences after 36 hours when they have 14 days to progress the enquiry and deal with them ? Releasing the suspects doesn’t make sense unless the authorities are satisfied they aren’t involved in a terrorist incident.

Edit - Releasing the suspects on bail now will enable the police /security services to potentially NFA (No Further Action) the investigation at some point in the future with minimum press coverage etc and less embarrassment. IMHO the police were 100% right to take positive action and make the arrests, if things aren’t as they first appear so be it.

Rabbits? Badgers? I know those comments are tongue in cheek, but I couldn't help thinking of my teenage experiences as a country boy. When we went "rabbiting" we didn't go mob-handed - just two or three people to cover both sides of hedges, We didn't drive 100 miles to get to the spot. We went in the early morning rather than at night. We didn't wear balaclavas. We did have at least one dog to mark active burrows and one or more ferrets. And if a group were taking the alternative route of "lamping" at night they would have been carrying firearms.

Returning to seriousness, this is a strange affair.

He says he would not have released them himself.

Releasing them could be a ploy, watch them closely, where they go, what they do, who they speak to. They won’t be able to fart without MI6 analysing it to see what they had for breakfast.

It's a crazy one this one, some are even (are they allowed to do that?) speculating that it was a 'false flag' operation by the state that went wrong when a member of (that farmer) the general public happened to turn up unexpectedly and gatecrash a crafty case of a dirty trick in progress. I suppose claims like that aren't helped by the 'dodgy Iraq dossier' etc.

If you think that's bad wait for the political sleight of hand close to, and after the next Labour government budget!
